I am running two Max 3000s here. The first is connected to an E1 via the serial wan port. The max is also connected to an Intel switch via the ethernet port. The second Max is connected to the same switch and uses the first one as the default gateway. Is this the correct way to run the two Max3000s ? Secondly, the max connected to the net is showing some CRC errors. I have set the clock on the first E1-R2 to yes and the second one to No. For about 1500 or so RX and TX packets, it gets about 4-5 CRC errors. Is this normal ? What is the best RX to CRC ratio that I should aim for ? Is there any way I can reduce these CRCs ? Stacking is done at the software level (see Ethernet/Mod Config/Stack Options). The TNT is the platform that has a physical connector for that. As for clocking, in the US at least, we take clock from the line on all PRI/CT1 from the switch (CO), and none on PtP connections. For the CRC errors, these can be caused by a number of factors, ranging from incorrect programming on the telco side (wrong framing or encoding), electrical interference (make sure the loop is clean). If you need, have your telco come out with test equipment and run a full load test on the loop to see if it's clean or not. If possible, have them use the same patch cord that you're using to run from the NI to your CSU. They can test from either end and sometimes from a test point in the middle of the loop, which gives them the ability to loop your CSU and put a full load on it. -- Troy Settle Pulaski Networks 540.994.4254 They told me to think out of the box, but I tripped over it, now I own my own company. ** -----Original Message----- ** From: owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com ** [mailto:owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com]On Behalf Of Harpreet Singh ** Giani ** Sent: Thursday, February 01, 2001 9:38 PM ** To: Shirish Jain; ascend-users ** Subject: Re: (ASCEND) CRC on Max 3000 ** ** ** How do I stack the Max's ? ** ** Both the Max are connected to two E1-R2s each for incoming callers. ** ** The serial wan port on the first Max is connected to a leased line modem ** (The leased line modem has a V.35 interface. We have been using pm3 for while, and are usinf following radius entry for all users: DEFAULT Authentication-Type = UNIX-PW pppuser Authentication-Type = None Service-Type = Framed, Framed-Protocol = PPP, Framed-IP-Netmask = 255.255.255.0, Framed-Routing = None, Framed-MTU = 1500, Framed-Compression = Van-Jacobson-TCP-IP It worked fine for pm3. Now I am reading documents on how Ascend does Ip assignments It appears that I need to add following to assign Ip address from the pool Ascend-Assign-IP-Pool = 1, Since my radius does not have that define, how can I make it work with out adding that? Or it is must? If it is must then can some body suggest radius (preferable free) that can work with pm3 and Ascend. Change it to: Framed-IP-Address = 255.255.255.254, Framed-IP-Netmask = 255.255.255.255, > > It worked fine for pm3. > > Now I am reading documents on how Ascend does Ip assignments > It appears that I need to add following to assign Ip address from the pool > > Ascend-Assign-IP-Pool = 1, > > Since my radius does not have that define, how can I make it work with out > adding that? For MLPPP users, you'll need to do something like this: mlpppuser Auth-Type=whatever, Framed-Protocol=PPP Port-Limit = 2, Ascend-Maximum-Channels = 2 You'll also need to duplicate some attributes for those profiles requiring other things, such as extended or unlimited time limits. -- Troy Settle Pulaski Networks 540.994.4254 They told me to think out of the box, but I tripped over it, now I own my own company. ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From sinhh at froggy.com.au Sun Feb 4 15:56:04 2001 From: sinhh at froggy.com.au (Sinh Huynh) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:06 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Maximum speed of the WAN serial host port on the Max 6000 Message-ID: <3A7DCFF4.7FE7CE9C@froggy.com.au> Hi Does anyone know what is the max. speed of the WAN serial host port on the Max 6000 ( using Frame Relay) ? The calls are initiated by the MAX calling the P75, sending CHAP password, P75 hangs up and dials back the number for the MAX. Authentication is complete and the line stays up for the session, with a 20 minute timeout. There's currently 4 remote sites, two international, two domestic US. This happens on all of them (even traced it to happening when the MAX called a prototype system in our lab) The tricky part is that it once one call gets caught in this "hang," other calls go just fine. If there's no sessions, I start one to site A. It hangs. Site B C and D goes up fine. If I start with B, then A C & D go fine. It's whichever one is first. Our logs go back 8 months, and on the day we turned syslog on, it happened. Happens more now as there's 4 times as many sessions. It's kind of an irritating little bugger. You can happily use TNT with 960 ports - with a CT3 (DS3 - 672 DS0) + 2 x CT1 (each is 8 x DS1 - 192 DS0; you will be able to use 1 and a half of CT1 max) cards for an ingress, 10 96 ports cards for processing, and one Ethernet III card (with or without dongle ) for egress. If you are on an E1 countries, you can use 4 x CE1 ( each has 8 E1), 10 96-modem cards and 1 Fast Ethernet egress. Total - 14 cards for T1 countries, so get one more 96 modem just to have a spare sitting in chassis...:-). Sorry, can't recall which release exactly, but suffice to say if you're still running a vulnerable version you deserve what you get. ;-) Recent TAOS releases have SYN-flood protection, and this should be turned on. It will report to syslog when it's triggered. Last week we had a a DSL Terminator 100 running 8.0.3 start crashing furiously. After much effort and peering at traces this was traced to UDP packets hitting a route to rj0 in the Terminator. Apparently, the Terminator was dying trying to send Host Unreachable. We're not yet sure if this is a deliberate exploit or just a bug that some new traffic suddenly triggered. We've reported it to Lucent and CERT, but no response from either yet. Changing the rj0 routes to bh0 is an effective workaround. If this does turn out to be an exploit, I'll report it here. -- Peter Lalor Infoasis plalor@infoasis.com http://www.infoasis.com/ "Where's my burrito?" -- Homer ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From anssi.sallinen at jippiigroup.com Sun Feb 11 12:54:06 2001 From: anssi.sallinen at jippiigroup.com (Anssi Sallinen) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:09 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Re: (ASCEND) DSLPipeline References: <200101260645.WAA17273@max.bungi.com> <3A85860D.65900675@jippiigroup.com> Message-ID: <3A86DFCE.804524EB@jippiigroup.com> > What do they make that you've tried? We must have details! ;-) Well, ZyXel is mostly known for their outstanding ISDN-routers (Prestige 100 and Prestige 128). They made some IDSL-leased-line equipment but that sucked badly. Now they have among many models the Prestige 610 SDSL-router. It basically has the same funcions as Lucent's DSLPipeline, but it's a little bit nicer to configure. It works (tested) against Lucent's equipment and it also should run against Copper Mountain. Basically what you get is a low-cost DSLPipeline with Prestige 610. It has mostly the same features for encapsulation (PPP, FR), can handle roughly the same amount of filters as DSLP, won't do NAT any better than the DSLP but can handle dhcp much better. That's about it in a nutshell.. ZyXel just got out a D-SLAM, the prestige 1600. It can terminate 24 SDLS- connections, has QoS (policy-routing and ToS). I'm still testing the equipment but it seems pretty nice, I'm having problems getting it to work reliably against Lucent DSLP but this is propably a software issue. A few more words on the topic, I my view Lucent's DSLPipeline has turned out as a very reliable piece of equipment. We never have to run around customers replacing faulty units, and you get a nearly 100% reliablilty when testing new equipment. Pretty much the same for ZyXel, but you can se that it's inferior compared to Lucent. We tested a year or so ago Xpeed PCI SDSL-cards but they turned out to be unreliable and it seemed like there was no development going on the OS-drivers so we dropped it. I mailed here a while ago about a problem with Max20's and SDLS's, this lookes like it's solving. I thank those who commented on the issue. Xpeed PCI SDSL works fine under Linux. At this point the Linux drivers are probably better supported than the windoze ones :-) The external bridges work well and have the most powerful transceivers of any DSL equipment I've tested (eg xpeed was able to get a strong 0-error 2320kbps link where other vendors stuff would barely sync at 1152kbps) -Dan ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From ronh at intercom.net Sun Feb 11 23:11:52 2001 From: ronh at intercom.net (Ron Hensley) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:09 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) Max 200 Message-ID: <041401c094b2$531d69e0$0200000a@intercom.net> Anyone know where I can get ahold of the Config Software for one of these apparently End of Life products? You are wise if you add one more card than the capacity desired on the TNT (I'd go with 8 of those 96-port modem cards for a single DS3 TNT if you anticipate close to near 672 sessions for a good deal of your evening traffic useage...Better safe than sorry). Maybe you could put other kind of services like digital calls as well as analog...or voip...with other cards in those empty slots. As for the backplane, if every user for 672 connections connected at 48-50.6k (50.6k for me, right now as I type this, I'm amazed my lucent winmodem is doing so well tonight) and was each downloading like mad with as many napster connections as possible tonight before the napster lockout...You should never exceed the TNTs capacity when it is properly configred and the right cards are in place. Ordinary to full DS3 usage tends to always be less than the TNTs internal throughput limits. - gm __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? In-Reply-To: Message-ID: http://www.56k.com http://www.v90.com As a rule, I gently explain about the digital service that calls come in on, and that 99.9% of all connection issues are in the customer's modem and/or phone line. I also mention that connection speeds /will/ vary from very slow (20k) to very fast (54k), and that there's not a damned thing we can do to force a faster connection without the customer getting ISDN. If this fails, I then ask the customer how it is that I have XXX customers currently logged into the same modem pool right right at that moment. Generally, customers are pretty understanding. When asked at signup (or any other time), I tell everyone that we can't guarantee connection speeds, and that if they're on the 'net now, they can expect about the same connect speed that they were seeing with their old ISP. There are notable exceptions to this, but it usually requires the telco to clean up the line or getting the customer new firmware updates and/or a new modem. -- Troy Settle Pulaski Networks 540.994.4254 They told me to think out of the box, but I tripped over it, now I own my own company. ** -----Original Message----- ** From: owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com ** [mailto:owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com]On Behalf Of Dave Higgins ** Sent: Saturday, February 10, 2001 9:14 PM ** To: Ascend Users ** Subject: (ASCEND) Connection Troubles Explained? ** ** ** Hi there. ** ** I'm wondering if anyone would care to share a good document (or a link to ** one) describing various causes of connection troubles, from phone line ** issues to hardware issues, etc, that you send to customers complaining of ** connection trouble and insisting that it's your fault. ** ** I have an old one that I've sent a few times that is fairly ** dated (referring ** to Win95 a lot, with Win98 and 56K modems being new), but I'm looking for ** something better. ** ** Thanks. ** ** Dave Higgins ** Just4 Network ** ** ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ ** To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com ** To get FAQ'd: ** ** ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From darkshot at chudys.com Mon Feb 12 09:08:01 2001 From: darkshot at chudys.com (Darkshot) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:10 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) Heppy Anniversary, Kevin! First it goes from the ethernet card to the modem card, and then the modem card sends the modulated data to the DS3 card. Also, both modems and the ethernet card are full duplex, and everything could be ISDN, so you could have as much as 4 * 64000 * 672 = 172,032,000 bits per second. As I understand it, the backplace is basically a shared 155M ATM, so there isn't really quite enough bandwidth for the thing to run full speed. Granted, it isn't likely that you'll hit that, but there is also other stuff going across that backplane (routing messages, control system stuff, etc.). -- Chris Adams Systems and Network Administrator - HiWAAY Internet Services I don't speak for anybody but myself - that's enough trouble. ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From nealis at rcn.com Sun Feb 11 14:46:52 2001 From: nealis at rcn.com (Jason Nealis) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:10 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Re: (ASCEND) Real capacity of a TNT In-Reply-To: ; from troy@psknet.com on Thu, Feb 08, 2001 at 01:15:10PM -0500 References: Message-ID: <20010211154652.A277@rcn.com> We run several legacy TNT boxes in a DS3 configuration, Additionally we have several APX's also that terminate 4 DS3's without any severe issues :) Jason On Thu, Feb 08, 2001 at 01:15:10PM -0500, Troy Settle stated > > Once apon a time, the TNT used 2-slot 48port modem cards. I think you will find the TNT has 2 buses used for customer traffic. 1) TDM bus with capacity for 960 full duplex 64k channels. This carries traffic from the ingress cards (DS3) to the modem cards. 2) ATM bus. This carries traffic from the modems cards to the ethernet ports. This means 2 * 64000 * 960 = 122,880,000 bits per second over the ATM backplane. ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From sean at northrock.bm Mon Feb 12 11:36:26 2001 From: sean at northrock.bm (Sean Watkins) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:10 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) 4ether-card Message-ID: Hi Are there any tricks to getting a 4ether-card to work? admin> ver Software version 8.0.4 The TNT sees the card but will leave the reset state? admin> show Shelf 1 ( standalone ): { shelf-1 slot-1 0 } UP 8t1-card { shelf-1 slot-3 0 } RESET 4ether-card { shelf-1 slot-13 0 } UP 48modem-56k-card { shelf-1 slot-14 } OCCUPIED { shelf-1 slot-15 0 } UP 48modem-56k-card { shelf-1 slot-16 } OCCUPIED admin> admin> dircode Flash card code directory: Card 1, format FAT, capacity 8MB /current: shelf-controller 1880396 Mon Feb 12 12:13:32 2001 Version 8.0.4 8t1-card 273016 Mon Feb 12 12:14:40 2001 Version 8.0.4 48modem-56k-card 889221 Mon Feb 12 12:22:50 2001 Version 8.0.4 admin> The 4ether-card file seems to be not there? Symptoms just inability to ping or connect to ANYTHING. Finally saw the P50 MAC addresses all over my ARP tables on the routers and figured it out (By ripping the P50 off the shelf by its neck). Nasty bit of proxy code those things have. I guess that options mean more for the 'end customer' side, however even then it seems that's a bug not a feature as it even steals local lan traffic if it sees it pass by. ----- Original Message ----- From: "ISPstuff" To: Sent: Monday, February 12, 2001 7:54 PM Subject: Re: (ASCEND) MAX Mysterious Reboots. > Yes. If you issue the diagnostic command "avm" (or "lanp modem" for taos > 8.x.x) you will see the internal modem lists that the max keeps. Whenever a modem exceeds a certain threshold of bad calls the max moves it to the suspect list. If the modem or other modems on the same card take more bad calls the max moves it to the pending 195 list. It then prevents these cards these modems are on from taking any more calls and it waits for every user on that card to disconnect, at which point it resets the modem card. This can cause severe problems if you have the same number of incoming lines as modems. Lucent has yet to release a reliable fix for the problem. TAOS 9.x supposedly addresses the issue but it has enough other bugs of its own to make up for it. 7.0.22 is the only code I've found which doesn't appear to be terribly affected by the problem (but I've not tested this extensively yet). This is supposed to be a feature... ---Dave Montgomery -----Original Message----- From: rte-ascend-admin@lists.real-time.com [mailto:rte-ascend-admin@lists.real-time.com]On Behalf Of Kevin Steinhaus Sent: Thursday, February 15, 2001 8:29 AM To: Ascend-Users Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) Index warnings Can anyone tell me what the following warnings are and what is causing them... Software version is 7.0.22 Any > ideas? > Back to 7.0.4. The problem is that you are getting too many "bad calls" and the max is taking modems out of service. Only when an entire card is free, will it reset. Unfortuantely, if you have the same number of lines as modems, the offending card may not reset in time, resulting in the need for the reboot. You can see this in diagnostics mode by typing "avm" which will show you the offending modems on the "pending 195 list." For Max 6000's this is fixed in 9.0.0 code. For 4000's you have to back to 7.0.4 which is the latest code that doesn't incorperate this "feature." Rebooting corrected the problem until the NAS could [eventually] no longer see the card. Days later, the NAS quit taking calls completely even though it was not registering errors, no trouble with the circuits and the unit still recognized the remaining modem card. I began to suspect a bad chassis, as well. I say "as well" because taking the bad card and putting it into a known working chassis -- could still not see the card. Putting in a spare unit resolved the problem. ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From sward at voltage.net Fri Feb 16 13:16:55 2001 From: sward at voltage.net (Susie Ward) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:12 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Re: (ASCEND) MaX 4048 refusing calls In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <5.0.2.1.2.20010216130629.00a5bb30@mail.voltage.net> At 09:40 PM 2/15/01 -0500, Clint Wiley wrote: >You can see this in diagnostics mode by typing "avm" which will show you >the offending modems on the "pending 195 list." I'm using 7.0.1 right now, so this may be why I've not had a problem with modems actually going out of service and refusing calls. Is 9.0.0 stable? I've always been afraid to go past 7.0.26, but I had to downgrade due to telco problems causing strange things (long story, but 7.0.1 seemed to have fixed or at least lessened the problem). It seems no matter what software version I use it causes connection problems for one segment of my users or another and I only have one Max so I can't even experiment with different versions until I find one that works for me :) Susie Ward ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From scott at millenniumsolutions.net Fri Feb 16 14:13:29 2001 From: scott at millenniumsolutions.net (Scott Woodland) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:13 2005 Subject: [Ascend] FS: Max4048's Message-ID: <028a01c09854$edc8ab80$d3fea8c0@new2u.net> <<<>>> Ascend Max4048's and MX-SL-16MOD-S56 cards We have a new batch of Max4048's that just arrived. Is there a way to get the TNT to give me a list of all the possible "read" commands? I think once I figure out what menus are available, I'll be able to figure out the rest. I think at this point I have all the Radius, SNMP, and IP Global stuff done. We got this box used, and all I have to go on is the PDF version of the manuals. Also, is there an OS version that will make the TNT more Max 4k or 6k like? (aka with the menus?). Right now it is running 7.2.4, due to the fact that it only has an 8 MB flash card. After using Livingston units, Alcatel, and a few Max 4k and 6k's, the TNT's interface seems very archaic. But I don't know how this will affect non-www >traffic. I don't know if the Max 3000 has this feature, but on a Max TNT you can specify that a single port be forwarded to a specified IP address. You do it on a per-connection-profile basis, so you can choose whom to apply the feature to. You'd use that feature to forward port 80 to squid and the rest of your traffic would be untouched. If you don't have that feature, I'm guessing that you'd need to put the squid box in the traffic flow and let it transparently proxy. There's various dedicated hardware out there that does just that. -- Peter Lalor Infoasis plalor@infoasis.com http://www.infoasis.com/ "Where's my burrito?" -- Homer ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From rocca at multiboard.com Sun Feb 18 11:35:38 2001 From: rocca at multiboard.com (Peter Rocca) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:13 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) RE: ascend-users-digest V96 #2202 In-Reply-To: <200102180645.WAA08327@max.bungi.com> Message-ID: <000801c099d1$3534a0f0$0179a8c0@multiboard.com> > I am setting up a squid cache for my ISP setup. > I am using Ascend MAXen. I don't believe you can redirect particular ports with the 3000, however if you set it up to use your Squid IP address as its default gateway then all traffic will go to it, make sure you have it setup to transparently proxy port 80 and pass all other packets on to your regular gateway. The Squid documentation (and the web in general) is pretty good at helping with the transparently proxying part. ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From pb at tic.ch Mon Feb 19 09:40:36 2001 From: pb at tic.ch (Patrick Bucher) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:13 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) Problem with ascend-data-filter on max tnt and max 4000 Message-ID: hi there we have several max dial-in machines. since we upgraded from (sgi)radius 1.16 to (linux)radius 1.16.1 some users can't dial into the max tnt but into the max 4000. That's a TNT feature -- with the Max you'll need to set it so all traffic goes to your proxy server and just let all non-port 80 traffic pass through at that box. The cable is the same as the MAX 4000/6000/Pipe130 cable orderable from your Lucent Reseller From a document I have access to, 3 variations: Model #: Desc: MXHP-RS449 7-Foot shielded cable with male DB-44 to male DC-37. Does not include gender changer. MXHP-V35 7-Foot shielded cable with male DB-44 to male V.35. Does not include gender changer. MXHP-X21 7-Foot shielded cable with male DB-44 to male X.21. Does not include gender changer. This cable is pretty well known in it's Max guise, and third party suppliers may be able to make one up. Then again, there's nothing like having genuine parts when making a support call. Also, 7.4.11 is the latest GA version on Superpipe. It has some new code for V.35 interfaced Superpipes. I really need to get this T1 off the 6096, and would >really appreciate some help with it. Everything you've shown is correct, assuming the nailed T1 is assigned nailed-group 8. As you've got this working with a 6000, you just need to make sure that every setting in the 6000 is recreated in the TNT. Particularly, pay attention to your compression settings (Stac, vj-header-prediction.) A mismatch there will cause problems. One easy thing to do is save out both configs and compare the T1 and connection profiles. What does the log show for the profile? It should give progress codes that can help. Do you have enough HDLC resources? 'hdlc -a'. You'll need as many as you have nailed T1 channels, plus enough for each active ISDN B channel. I've moved nailed T1s back and forth between Max 20s and a TNT without difficulty several times. It does work. -- Peter Lalor Infoasis plalor@infoasis.com http://www.infoasis.com/ "Where's my burrito?" -- Homer ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From sw at prilink.net Sat Feb 24 19:02:57 2001 From: sw at prilink.net (Sven Woelk) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:15 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Routing Problem with Max1800 Message-ID: <000901c09ec6$b0c5f350$858791c3@prilink.net> Hello, i installed a Max 1800 8BRI/8Mod Router with Rel. 7.2.4 on it to handle incoming connections. I was wondering ... would I get better performance by using Frame Relay or MPP ? I was earlier using PPP and was getting horrible speeds ... probably because instead of using 16 * 64Kbps bandwidth, the serial was using only 1 * 64Kbps bandwidth. By configuring it to MPP and specifying 16 channels, I am able to get better speeds. But if I set both ends to use frame relay, do you think I'd get better performance ? ___ hsg ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From mlevans at blacksburg.net Tue Feb 27 01:01:34 2001 From: mlevans at blacksburg.net (Lyle Evans) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:15 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) FS: rackmount brackets for Ascend & other equipment Message-ID: <3.0.5.32.20010227020134.01657100@pop.blacksburg.net> We are selling rackear kits for Ascend 4xxx, and Ascend 1800, We are also selling generic rackears kits for rackmount equipment, in 1U to 6U sizes, and rackears for some models of Cisco, 3com, Livingston, and other brands of networking equipment. We have two Max TNTs and three Max 4048s authenticating off of it from a seperate location. Since bringing this new radius daemon online we have been getting a lot of disconnect issues from our 4048s. Sessions seem to drop after 2 or 3 minutes with an Ascend-Disconnect-Cause = 100 (The sessions timed out because there was no activity on a PPP link.) My users file looks like this: DEFAULT authentication-type="Unix-PW" service-type=Framed framed-protocol=PPP framed-routing=None ascend-assign-ip-pool="0" ascend-idle-limit="3600" The ascend-idle-limit seems to be taking on the Max TNTs as they are having no disconnect issues after 2-3 minutes. Is there any reason why this would not take on the 4048s? Could there be a problem elsewhere? I've tried several dictionary files and am currently using themax_dictionary.dct,v 1.4.2.8 2000/12/05 20:06:07 included with the navis radius installation for solaris. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Message-ID: <3A9D097B.E722862@chudys.com> I'm in the process of waiting (and waiting) for fiber to be run so I can upgrade my bandwidth, but am currently stuck with 2 T1's on on PoP here that's being flooded. Since it seems that network usage goes to the wall within 10 minutes of seeing the schoolbuses go by the NOC ,I strongly suspect Napster of being behind this. What I'd like, either using the MAX boxes' filtering capabilities, or something on the Ciscos (2500 series), is to be able to block this traffic completely for a bit to see if the problem goes away. Paradise has a product that's supposed to analyze traffic and tell you what's going on, but my topology won't allow me to use it effectively- plus, it needs to be on a "hub" and I don't have any here. Don't have any vacuum tubes, either. ;-) A search on the web for "Block Napster" returns nothing but tons of material on how to get around such a thing- no clues as to how it is done in the first place. Is anyone on either list doing this, and if so, how? Any information will be greatly appreciated.
