I have just installed the Napster Software and sniffed all the traffic. It goes like this: 1. Contact "server.napster.com" on port 8875 server.napster.com is the name for these IP addresses: server.napster.com has address 64.124.41.19 server.napster.com has address 64.124.41.16 server.napster.com has address 64.124.41.17 2. There is a reply of one packet that contains the next server address and port In my example it was 208.184.216.52:8888 This address comes in ascii in the data data part. 3. The client terminates the connection to server.napster.com and establishes a new connection to the address received. That's why is it sufficient to block port 8875/tcp. Don't have any vacuum tubes, either. ;-) Sounds like a denial of service attack maybe, or someone spamming from your ports, as I'd be surprised if you saturated 2 T1's of data from regular usage. Typically we see 1:4 to 1:8 usage ratio (not dialup usage, rather active bandwidth users at any given second), so even if you had 96 ports on the MAX you shouldn't be filling one T1, let alone flooding two. You can get a hub for about $20 - get a laptop with a free packet analyzer (like Linux's tcpdump or ntop, or there are some free Windows ones too), and plug it in and watch what's happening - that would be a lot quicker (and probably generate less complaints) than playing trial and error with which services to block. ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From kharrison at adelphia.net Thu Mar 1 07:58:27 2001 From: kharrison at adelphia.net (Karl Harrison) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:16 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) RE: Blocking or limiting Napster... Then the file is transferred in a Peer to Peer connection. In is very difficult to stop the peer to peer without boxes designed for that purpose. If you are interested in that, see www.infosecuritymag.com for an article on the subject. It was covered in the February 2000 issue of Information Security. For your solution, I would put up an access list denying any traffic to the Napster servers. These IPs should not be too hard to determine. You may try contacting the Cisco TAC for the IPs, as well. Someone there should have the list. At least they did when I worked there. Since it seems that network usage goes to the wall within 10 minutes of seeing the schoolbuses go by the NOC ,I strongly suspect Napster of being behind this. What I'd like, either using the MAX boxes' filtering capabilities, or something on the Ciscos (2500 series), is to be able to block this traffic completely for a bit to see if the problem goes away. Paradise has a product that's supposed to analyze traffic and tell you what's going on, but my topology won't allow me to use it effectively- plus, it needs to be on a "hub" and I don't have any here. If you check the accounting (radius) logs the second channel is being denied access with an ascend disconnect code of 49. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks. Pollok) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:16 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) Strange things ... Message-ID: ... folks... this evening one of our Maxen did some strange things and I tried so hard to track down what happened but couldn't find anything. There is a Max4k running 7.0.4 with a 16-S56 modem card and two PRIs. It's just taking calls and has a 8-port BRI-card additionally where two old ISDN PPP leased-lines are hooked up. At 7pm the following things happened and perhaps someone of you could get this puzzle together: - The Max stopped answering SNMP queries (MRTG) - The syslog is full of disconnections because "No NCPs were open" with state "IPNCP negotiation" - Nothing in the fatal log - The Max dropped his OSPF adjacency with a Cisco router several times - Even ONE (but only one of two) of the BRI-Leased lines flapped several times (with "No NCP open"). - Syslog shows some (but not much) "Radius client timeouts" although there is a secondary radius server available - Customer calling and complaining that there was no connection to the internet. At 8:30pm (just before I got informed and was able to check things out) all went back to normal immediately. The sessions came back up, all looks absolutely normal since then. I checked the MRTGs on the Cisco router infront of the Max to see whether there was a DoS attack with flood pings or anything else but the LAN was clean. Nothing special, no high traffic. Is here anyone who may at least guess what was going on? Thanks very much! Don't know about free but NavisRadius supports LDAP and syslog for server logs. It does not do accounting via syslog as syslog does not have reliable delivery of messages so it is quite easy to lose information using syslog. http://www.lucentradius.com/ -- Thomas C Kinnen - [RADIUS Engineer] - LUCENT Technologies INS "All of the opinions stated above are my own and not my employer's, unless they were given to me by my employer" ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From denny at reiters.org Mon Mar 5 16:10:56 2001 From: denny at reiters.org (Dennis Reiter) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:17 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) IPSec through a DSL pipeline Message-ID: <20010305161056.J12340@reiters.org> I'm trying to get a Bay/Nortel Instant Internet device to connect to a VPN through a Lucent DSLPipe. If the client refuses to take this ("NAK" again but this time from client to server), the connection will be terminated ("TermREQ") from the Max. Several implementations try to send their own ip address but the routers override this. It would be very ugly to always refue them to connect. Another thing I know for sure is after you save twice when backing out of setting a static mapping, you should do a reboot on the unit or the static mapping won't work right. I didn't post to the list, so for the rest of you it's here: http://www.lucent-info.com/ins/firewallforfree/ It does require firmware version 6.x or above (as I recall) for Firewall features) and from the web site above Email will be sent to the requestor with the appropriate hash codes to enable firewall on the P130. The only requirement from Lucent to qualify is that the unit be serial number 722xxxx or higher. (IE: don't send a request for Firewall or IPSec via the web site if your pipeline is below that serial number). The Firewall 4 Free program applies to all Pipelines (50, 75, 85, 130, etc) and the serial number is the only qualifier. On P130's only firewall is enabled, on P50/75/85 you should get feature enable key for Firewall and 56Bit IPsec Encryption. Instructions for applying the upgrade hash codes or feature key are sent in the email response from Lucent. Some DSL products are also supported. If you are referring to just testing the port and the associated service - ok. If you are trying to test the NAT static mapping from the same network the static mapped device is on - this will not work. (in my experience) You have initiate the connection from another network. We had this same issue and though the static mapping appeared not to be working when testing from the same network. (which is a configuration that would not be used - but is probably the way most people set this up and test) When we tested from another network it was working fine. This was a real pain to figure out until by chance I tried it from another network and discovered it was working. You are correct that NAT routing must be enabled (In Ethernet -> Mod Config -> NAT Routing=Yes) and it must also be enabled for the appropriate connection profile for this feature to work. (In Ethernet -> NAT-> Routing=Yes and the Profile = the appropriate connection profile) you've probably seen this though as it's where the static mappings are set up. Good luck. Today I attempted to set up the new addresses on my Max4000's and had some trouble. I changed the IP pool to reflect the new Class C. I changed the default gateway address under Static Routes. I changed the primary and secondary DNS to the new address of the nameservers. I changed the internal IP address of the max. After rebooting the machine, my dial-in customers could get authenticated and connected ok, but were not able to access any IP addresses outside the Max. I was able to ping the Max itself from the dialed in computer by IP address, but could not ping any machine on my local network or on the Internet. I was able to drop into terminal server mode on the Max during the test and ping my network or any other address out on the Internet by both IP and by name. Eventually I had to put everything back like it was and call the changeover a failure. Is there anything that needs to be cleared on the Max so that it will accept new IP addresses or something else I overlooked? Under Ether options, I have the parameter Ignore Default Route set to yes. Could this be causing the problem? I appreciate any help in this matter. Message-ID: <5.0.2.1.2.20010311145201.009e8ec0@mail.datatie.fi> Hello. My TNT is connected to OC3-ATM network (our own network) and ATM connections are configured in RADIUS (permconns). There are multiple switches/routers on the way to the other end. Lets say the connection (IP) I need to test is between TNT and Cisco 3810 connected to Frame Relay behind that ATM network where my TNT is connected. Cisco has IP address configured in serial interface and that same ip address is used when configuring atm connection to TNT. But there is no ip address on TNT side... When I try to ping Cisco, TNT sends echo request to Cisco, but what is the source address which TNT uses for that packet? Is it system ip address (ip-global) as I assume, and therefore Cisco doesn't know any route to send echo reply. Source address should be that other address of the network configured between TNT and Cisco, but how can I do that? Because it's not necessary to configure "local ip address" in tnt, I don't want to. My clients have ISDN routers dialing in to TNT and they are router to ATM using ATM-Direct. So only way to test some customer's ATM connection from TNT is to ping that other end from ISDN router. But I need to do that testing before ISDN router is in place, just to be sure, that trunk connection is ok. How does that oamloop command works? Does it only go to the next switch and then come back which isn't enough in this case because Cisco is behind ATM-FR. I also use Vrouters. Here are some information about my setup: wan 237 is that ATM connection (dtietesti-atm), and wanabe routes are ISDN routers. admin> netstat dtietesti-vrou -r Destination Gateway IF Flg Pref Met Use Age 127.0.0.0/8 - bh0_dtietes CP 0 0 0 1386726 127.0.0.1/32 - local CP 0 0 0 1386726 127.0.0.2/32 - rj0_dtietes CP 0 0 0 1386726 172.25.60.128/30 172.25.60.130 wan237 rGT 60 1 0 149308 172.25.60.130/32 172.25.60.130 wan237 rT 60 1 4 149308 195.237.41.136/29 195.237.41.137 wanabe SG 100 1 10 149318 195.237.41.216/29 195.237.41.217 wanabe SG 100 1 10 149318 admin> permconn Active Yes User-Name dtietesti-atm Send-auth-mode 0 Ascend-Call-Type 1 Ascend-Group 5 Ascend-Nailed-Grp 5 Ascend-Data-Srv 1 Ascend-PRI-Number-Type 2 HostAddress [172.25.60.130] Netmask [255.255.255.252] wanAlias [0.0.0.0] ifAddress [0.0.0.0] ifNetmask [0.0.0.0] Metric 1 Dial number [] Clid [] Dnis [] Framed-Protocol 20 Ascend-ATM-Vpi 0 Ascend-ATM-Vci 180 Ascend-Dsl-Type-Mode:0 Ascend-Dsl-Rate-Mode:1 adsl Cap Ascend-Dsl-Upstream-Limit:50 adsl Cap Ascend-Dsl-Downstream-Limit:6 adsl Dmt Ascend-Dsl-Upstream-Limit:153 adsl Dmt Ascend-Dsl-Downstream-Limit:103 sdsl Ascend-Dsl-UpDownstream-Limit:4 admin> ping -c 1 -r dtietesti-vrou -x 172.25.60.129 172.25.60.130 ping: invalid source address "172.25.60.129" Regards, Jyrki Kainulainen. ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From afred at txun.net Sun Mar 11 15:36:05 2001 From: afred at txun.net (AFRed) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:19 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) Win2k RADIUS and Acsend Max 4004 Message-ID: <00a001c0aa73$476fbcc0$45066b3f@caleb> Would any one happen to know where to find a FAQ or a HOW-TO on using Internet Authentication Service on Win2k Server with a MAX 4004 for RADIUS? I've looked briefly at IAS, and if memory serves, it defaults to the RFC specified port of 1812. Ascend, for some unknown reason, defaults to port 49. You need to change this. You also need to make sure that the key is the same on both sides. With that said, I'd reccomend against IAS unless you're never going to go over a few hundred users. If you can, take a look at http://www.freeradius.org. Or, if you're stuck with Windows, look into RadiusNT at http://www.iea-software.com against a SQL backend (http://www.microsoft.com/sql) Good luck, -- Troy Settle Pulaski Networks 540.994.4254 ** -----Original Message----- ** From: owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com ** [mailto:owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com]On Behalf Of AFRed ** Sent: Sunday, March 11, 2001 4:36 PM ** To: ascend-users@bungi.com ** Subject: (ASCEND) Win2k RADIUS and Acsend Max 4004 ** ** ** Would any one happen to know where to find a FAQ or a HOW-TO on using ** Internet Authentication Service on Win2k Server with a MAX 4004 ** for RADIUS? ** I seem to have something a little off. If you were using numbered interfaces on the TNT on a given profile, it might also be the near side of the interface pair. Could you create a route from the Cisco to the TNT's system IP address, possibly via a VCI just for that purpose? It might be the easiest solution. Forgive me if I'm not following your setup. The box is a Max4000HP with 7.0.4 and a serial number 8391455 (ie '98 model) We have it in a room with a temperature kept at 19 degrees Celsius, while this temp is nice and cool all is fine, but when it starts to rise up in the low 20's (ie someone leaves the door to the room open :) the box starts dropping users and when it gets in the high 20's it just locks up completely. I haven't had a good look at the fans yet, but we brought this second hand and when we first got it, it would lock up with 2 or more Modem cards installed, this was sent back and fixed (power supply problem) but I've got suspicion this is what could be causing the current problem. We had between twenty and thirty Max6000s for providing remote access. All the chassis were filled with six 16-port modem cards, providing 96 modems. We would only use three PRIs on the chassis, and run a minimum of features that were likely to cause CPU overhead. With six spare modems and ISDN users connecting through the box, you have enough modems to let you disable any that might be faulty, and still not have to replace the card. We avoided OSPF and ran RIP, using Cisco routers to redistribute RIP information into the core network. We did run stacking for channel-bonded ISDN, and units were connected to the rest of the network using 100Mb switches. This configuration always ran without problems. I'm sure there are plenty of people running fully loaded boxes, but depending on your network environment, you might not be able to get away with it. Lots of routing activity or filters applied through RADIUS could happily kill the performance of your remote access servers. - Matt -- Matthew Watkins Technical Consultant Knowware UK Ltd http://www.knowware.co.uk Mobile: +44 (0)7968 755807 Home Office: +44 (0)1223 300917 Fax: +44 (0)1223 301280 ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From hetzels at westbend.net Mon Mar 19 19:22:17 2001 From: hetzels at westbend.net (Scot W. The MXV-SL-DSP16 are voice DSP's for VoIP only. I do not know if there is a VoIP load for MAX 4000. There are definitely VoIP loads for MAX 6000. the MultiDSP, currently available for TNT and APX are VoIP/Modem/Digital 64K/V.110 capable. At this date the MAX does only VoIP or Data, not both. The problem is that you are getting too many "bad calls" and the max is taking modems out of service. Only when an entire card is free, will it reset. Unfortuantely, if you have the same number of lines as modems, the offending card may not reset in time, resulting in the need for the reboot. You can see this in diagnostics mode by typing "avm" which will show you the offending modems on the "pending 195 list." For Max 6000's this is fixed in 9.0.0 code. For 4000's you have to back to 7.0.4 which is the latest code that doesn't incorperate this "feature." So...if there's a 9.x for the 3000, perhaps that would fix it... We're trying to setup a remote location to our main campus network using 2 Ascend P50 routers to route IP traffic. We have the connections setup and the two routers can 'talk' to each other. The router on the main campus can ping everything on it's subnet and out to the internet. The remote P50 can ping the main campus P50 and no further. The remote location does not get routed past the main campus P50. IP routing is turned on at both locations. I've tried it both with NAT turned on and off. everything works fine using bridging but it keeps the connection live 24/7. here is a brief accounting of the router setup. Both routers running v. 8.0-101.0 software Main campus router: IP address: 165.160.212.61/26 default gateway: 165.160.212.62 (defaulty gateway on main campus LAN) IP routing YES Remote router: IPaddress: 192.168.1.1/26 default gateway: 165.160.212.61 IP routing YES Anyone have a quick an dirty setup of routing settings? I tried the sample router-to-router setup from the Ascend website but it doesn't work. I've tried setting up NAT but I'm not sure I did it correctly. When running NAT on the remote P50 does DHCP need to be configured on the main campus P50? Whatever we tried we still could not get past the main campus P50. (In fact, there is a third one, but this is for internal use only). Funny enough, the modem side didn't seem to be affected at all. The active ISDN calls were distributed symmetrically over the two lines, just as they are supposed to be. Last time we had this problem, resetting the box fixed it. But does everyone need all the extra features? I don't see that much difference in the feature set of FreeRADIUS and NavisRadius 3.0 (except that FreeRADIUS doesn't depend on a reliable Java runtime). I currently use Cistron RADIUS with some local patches, and it meets my needs quite well. When Livingston started using Java for their GUI management tools, I thought it was a good idea. NR is basically a NavisRadius development kit that does not require extensive programming skills and can be made to fit the business needs of a situation rather then making the needs fit the server. I could probably give you a better detailed list in a few weeks when I start running a few feature comparisons for he marketing people. > When Livingston started using Java for their GUI management tools, I > thought it was a good idea. I don't like Java for a daemon that I have > to have 100% reliability from though. I'd use Radiator (written in > Perl) before using something written in Java. What would be your reasoning behind this? In a number of large deployments (excess of 400k ports) customers are finding the NR written in Java is faster and more stable then the C based servers that is it replacing. This becomes very apparent as the number of CPUs is scaled up. One customer found that NR on one 4 CPU enterprise 450 could handle the load that the previous server was have problems on 9 of the same servers (working on getting the issues taken care of so more info on this can be released). As of Java 1.3 I believe the latest tests (I would need to check but this is what I heard) showed that properly optimized java code and properly optimized C code for server applications was with in 10% of each other. In many cases Java protects from common errors in C programs. -- Thomas C Kinnen - [RADIUS Engineer] - LUCENT Technologies INS "All of the opinions stated above are my own and not my employer's, unless they were given to me by my employer" ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From Edwin_Everett at cargill.com Wed Mar 28 14:28:29 2001 From: Edwin_Everett at cargill.com (Edwin_Everett@cargill.com) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:25 2005 Subject: [Ascend] RE: (ASCEND) What RADIUS server? But does everyone need all the extra features? I don't see that much difference in the feature set of FreeRADIUS and NavisRadius 3.0 (except that FreeRADIUS doesn't depend on a reliable Java runtime). I currently use Cistron RADIUS with some local patches, and it meets my needs quite well. When Livingston started using Java for their GUI management tools, I thought it was a good idea. I don't like Java for a daemon that I have to have 100% reliability from though. I'd use Radiator (written in Perl) before using something written in Java. -- Chris Adams Systems and Network Administrator - HiWAAY Internet Services I don't speak for anybody but myself - that's enough trouble. ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From natecars at real-time.com Thu Mar 29 16:32:40 2001 From: natecars at real-time.com (Nate Carlson) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:25 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) problems with pipeline 8.0 firmware and Cisco router? Message-ID: We're having a problem at a client who has a Pipeline 50 running the newest 8.0 firmware; standard configuration. Their ISP is running Cisco RAS gear (sorry, all I know is that it's cisco; no more details.) The connection comes up fine, but when they start a download, it goes at full speed (11-12k/s) for 10-15 seconds, then it drops to nothing for another 20-30 seconds. It keeps repeating this cycle, for an average download speed of 1-3k/s. Their ISP is blaming it on the Ascend 8.0 firmware. I haven't ever heard this before; has anyone heard about a problem between the upgraded pipelines and Cisco equipment? They are telling us to downgrade to the newest 6.x; which I will try if need be.. but I'm just curious if this is actually a known problem or if the ISP is just grasping at straws. It is possible, but it depends on your ISP's cooperation. Our ISP provides 'callback' as an option. When data for our network arrives at the ISP, they call our Pipeline, instruct it to call back, then disconnect. The Pipeline calls the ISP, and sets up the connection. See the manual for the 'callback' option. -- Harro de Jong ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From ronh at intercom.net Wed Mar 28 16:35:10 2001 From: ronh at intercom.net (Ron Hensley) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:26 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Re: (ASCEND) What RADIUS server? But the extras are vast any many with Radiator is why tooted its horn. Support for just about every known SQL version, mysql, oracle, MsSql, etc for radius logs, auth logs, account logs, storing usernames passwords etc. Written in Object Oriented Perl, with hooks builtin for one to write there own Perl code to do absolutely anything you deisre at login or logoff that perl code can do, handlers and realm support beyond belief so you can customize to your hearts content, load balancing for redundancy on the radius itself, builtin support for most major ISP billing software packages etc. True if all you need is verify a password and log to a text file, then any will do, but when you need billing features, database support, the abiltiy to customize without major source code hacks, excellent support from the author Here's a excerp of its features and why I Recommend it when you need to get down and dirty with Radius and not just simply log it to a text file (Thats all I meant by 'toy', i didnt mean to be disrespectful. I just meant free and only including basic features) *** Radiator is a highly configurable and extensible Radius server that allows you to easily customize and control how you authenticate users and record accounting information. Radiator can authenticate users from passwords held in: Flat files DBM files Unix password files and similar formats Remote Radius servers (proxying) SQL databases, including Oracle, Sybase, Informix, Microsoft SQL 6.5 and 7.0, Ingres, mSQL, mysql, ODBC and others. iPASS Roaming Network GRIC Global Roaming Network RAdmin, the Radius User Administration system from Open System Consultants Platypus ISP billing system from Boardtown Rodopi ISP billing system Emerald ISP billing system from IEA Interbiller ISP billing system Optigold ISP billing system LDAP databases NIS+ PAM TacacsPlus your own legacy user database Native NT user database (even from Unix!) A full suite of load balancing modules is included. Radiator runs on most Unix hosts, Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000 and MacOS X. It is written entirely in Perl, and is therefore highly portable. Full source code is supplied, so you can alter the behaviour of Radiator's internals if you need to. There is a standardized way of adding new authentication and accounting handlers, so you can easily integrate Radiator with other legacy systems and software. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Adams" To: Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2001 2:43 PM Subject: Re: (ASCEND) What RADIUS server? > Once upon a time, Thomas C Kinnen said: > > up@3.am wrote: > > > "Toy versions"? Client side Java is generally accepted as being quite slow when compared to C or C++ compiled programs. Server side Java is a totally different ball game, and can be exceptionally fast. An easier way, would be to configure both ends of the ISDN connection to autodial when they sense any traffic. -- Troy Settle Pulaski Networks 540.994.4254 It's always a long day, 86400 doesn't fit into a short ** -----Original Message----- ** From: owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com ** [mailto:owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com]On Behalf Of Chris Green ** Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2001 2:59 AM ** To: ascend-users@bungi.com ** Subject: Re: (ASCEND) This list ** ** ** On Thu, Mar 29, 2001 at 12:01:34AM -0800, danziger@pacifier.com wrote: ** > unless the p-75 is not setup for isdn which is what the p-75 ** was made for... ** > with isdn you get 2 pots lines.. just call one of the numbers ** and use the ** > console or remote admin for it to dial out... kinda simple... ** > ** Yes, but that (if I understand you correctly) requires that I have a ** computer with an outgoing modem available and that's just what I ** don't have. In these instances, once another P75 has initiated the call, the connection is sound and TCP/IP traffic works just fine. On the P75s that cannot initiate calls, I've checked and they're definitely dialing the correct numbers. Let me explain a little more. From work I'd like to be able to wake up my home network and get it to connect to the Internet so that I can then telnet into it (for example). At work I have a Sun Ultra and a PC on my desk both with permanent fast connections to the Internet, there are no modems or ISDN TAs or anything like that around the place. I do of course have a telephone on my desk. Thus the requirement is that a phone call to a specific number (I have MSN on my ISDN at home, thus there are 8 numbers) should get the Linux machine at home (which is always on) to try and connect which will wake up the Pipeline. This can be done with a modem on the Linux box and a script which is run when an incoming call is detected but I wondered if there was some more direct way of doing it with the Pipeline. -- Chris Green (chris@areti.co.uk) Home: chris@isbd.co.uk Work: cgreen@bcs.org.uk WWW: http://www.isbd.co.uk/ ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From chris at areti.co.uk Fri Mar 30 01:36:12 2001 From: chris at areti.co.uk (Chris Green) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:27 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Re: (ASCEND) P75 - Overlap Sending Digit In-Reply-To: <3AC3B4EB.AD9CDB1F@experioronline.com>; from Peter.Copeland@experioronline.com on Thu, Mar 29, 2001 at 04:19:23PM -0600 References: <3AC3B4EB.AD9CDB1F@experioronline.com> Message-ID: <20010330083612.D9383@areti.co.uk> On Thu, Mar 29, 2001 at 04:19:23PM -0600, Peter Copeland wrote: > I have some P75s that cannot initiate data calls, but can receive them > from other P75s. It says it relates to analogue calls though. The FAQ says:- This message "Overlap Sending Digit" pertains to analog calls made through the Pipeline POTS ports. It is a message that can be seen in the Terminal Server mode of the Pipeline 25/75/85. It indicates the number of digits that are dialed from an analog device on a POTs port. Each digit dialed is sent in a framed packet to the serving telco switch using the Overlap Send Mode feature of the Pipeline 25/75/85. Note: The message found under SHOW ISDN is an informational message. In the following example, the user dialed a seven-digit number: ascend% sh isdn NL: CALL CLEARED WITH CAUSE: 16 B1 NL: CALL REQUEST: Voice, # NL: OVERLAP SENDING DIGIT: B1 NL: OVERLAP SENDING DIGIT: B1 NL: OVERLAP SENDING DIGIT: B1 NL: OVERLAP SENDING DIGIT: B1 NL: OVERLAP SENDING DIGIT: B1 NL: OVERLAP SENDING DIGIT: B1 NL: OVERLAP SENDING DIGIT: B1 NL: CALL CONNECTED B1 NL: CALL CLEARED WITH CAUSE: 16 B1 NL: ANSWER REQUEST: B1 NL: CALL CONNECTED B1 #5551212 I *think* this is saying that "Overlap Sending Digit" doesn't matter. -- Chris Green (chris@areti.co.uk) Home: chris@isbd.co.uk Work: cgreen@bcs.org.uk WWW: http://www.isbd.co.uk/ ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From chris at areti.co.uk Fri Mar 30 01:43:24 2001 From: chris at areti.co.uk (Chris Green) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:27 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) MSN and Pipeline 75 Message-ID: <20010330084324.E9383@areti.co.uk> I have a standard European ISDN2e connection with MSN (that's Multi Subscriber Numbering, nothing to do with Microsoft!). I thus have 8 available numbers on my ISDN connection. It's not at all clear from the Pipeline documents how I set up my Pipeline to accept calls for two of my numbers on the POTS ports. Do I just enter the two numbers I want to use as the A and B numbers? If so how many digits do I put there? My numbers have the format 01473 736xxx, for overseas callers this is (+44) 1473 736xxx, thus (as I inderstand it) the exchange code is 1473 and my numbers are 736xxx. Do I just put the 736xxx bit into the Ascend or do I put 1473 736xxx, or what? -- Chris Green (chris@areti.co.uk) Home: chris@isbd.co.uk Work: cgreen@bcs.org.uk WWW: http://www.isbd.co.uk/ ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com To get FAQ'd: From plalor at infoasis.com Fri Mar 30 11:41:17 2001 From: plalor at infoasis.com (Peter Lalor) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:00:27 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) PPPoE?
