We just installed a Max 6000, and I noticed that we're getting near instant disconnects. I've verified that it's this one unit on my Mac by checking out the log in Remote Access. It reads "Termination requested by remote side". Also verified is that this one unit is the one that I was connected to. In looking through the settings, I find in Sytem>Sys Cofig> that Auto Logout=No and Idle Logout=0. Isn't this telling it that there is no idle logout, and that users should be able to stay on as long as they want? I've poked around the settings and can't really find anywhere else that this setting should apply. I've compared to a 4000 unit and everything seems to match. Even so much as being telnetted into this unit shows enough activity to keep the connection alive, but as soon as I close all programs using this dialup, a minute later I'm booted. I'm sure I'm missing something here. I'm certainly no ace when it comes to this Ascend gear. Anyone care to point me to another setting that would apply? Or perhaps I should look at some sort of hardware issue? Thanks. I hope to "drop insert" the unused channels out of the ADTRAN to the MAX for dialup users, if authenticated by my Emerald/Radius server, dialup users would then get internet acsess from the internet feed coming out of the ADTRANs ethernet jack. The only problem I see (I am new to this) is, my MAX shows E1 interfaces (bought it on EBAY). Will putting a "T1" T.A.O.S "load" on it change the interfaces or do I need a differant MAX ? I was told 9.0.2 would work without more, but reading the release note says "The standard software files you use to upgrade to TAOS 9.0.2 require additional flash memory available to the MAX6K only by way of external PCMCIA falsh card." I was ready to upgrade to 9.0.2 and then read that. We are running 6.1.7 that we actually had to downgrade to because we had the answer tone was just a long high pitch squeel. Apparently that was an issue with CH T1's and the TAOS versions 7 and up, but is apparently now fixed. Any ideas? I would like to put on some new code that works better with these newer junk modems everyone seems to have. We are seeing a ton of disconnect issues. We have max 6k's with 6.1.7, 7.0.26, and 7.2.3 and seems to be not any one specific build. Message-ID: <5.1.0.14.2.20011008104412.00a7dea0@mail.datatie.fi> Hello. Is there any way to disconnect ISDN B channel after telnet session to remote host from TNT? I'm doing remote administration over ISDN to ISDN routers. I use 5 E1 ISDN channels to dial out from TNT and have 5 user profiles configured locally on TNT. What I need is automatic disconnection after I have ended the telnet session to remote host. Now I have to wait idle timer to exeed before I can use that connection profile for another session to another remote host. I cannot use any of those manual ways like "userstat -k " or "tntcall -h ". Anyone? Regards, Jyrki Kainulainen. Message-ID: <719546A93D7DD511BA7800D0B7A87DF006325E@trinidad.solunet.com> Hi John, You can load 9.0.2 into your max but you will need to load one of these 2 codes: * eik.m60 (an ultra-thin load for E1 environments) * tik.m60 (an ultra-thin load for T1 environments) In the future, these codes will not be available and therefore the Maxes internal memory will not be sufficient to hold the new codes and will then require the external memory to be used. For the older modems, I have had great succees with 7.0.22 and have used it many times. You may also what to disable the modem ringback tone found under the ethernet-->mod-config menu. As far as the disconnect issues, if you are logging them to a syslog server, you can send the information to Lucent and they can parse it for you and determine were the disconnects are coming from and what is causing them. The maxes are very good RAS server but like all others, there are issues and problems. You will need to make sure that if you decide to upgrade to the later TAOS that it supports the older modems. I have a very odd and strange problem that I am encountering only with TNT's acting as DR in OSPF. The TNT's are running 8.0.2, 8.0.3 and 8.0.5. The problem is as follows: OSPF is running on broadcast media and all OSPF devices are in area 0.0.0.0 OSPF adjacencies form like they should and everything for the most part works great When OSPF is configured to be a DR on the TNT, a Redback SMS-500 on the network receives an LSA from the TNT and puts it into its ip routing table with a next-hop for that route of all 255.255.255.255 learned from OSPF. Only the TNT IP pools show up on the SMS with the problem as having a next-hop of all 255.255.255.255 on the Redback's ip routing table. The issue takes longer to appear and is less noticeable if the TNT does not have a lot of traffic. No other devices on the network report the next-hop as all 255.255.255.255 for the same route except the Redback. The problem is only when the TNT is a DR and not a BDR. Here is a capture from the ospfd that I ran on the TNT when it was a DR and I am curious to know whether this is normal and what the significance of the EXPORT and the - / + signs are. (note the 255.255.255.255 showing up as a gateway): OSPF-16703252: Export -> [-] dst=212.xxx.xxx.0/28 gw=255.255.255.255 if=-1 cost=16 OSPF-16703252: Export -> [+] dst=212.xxx.xxx.0/28 gw=212.xxx.xxx.xxx if=13 cost=2 I have set up 3 different TNT's acting as a DR and running different code and the problem was still noted regardless of the code. I am working with Redback on this as well but since the problem is only when the TNT is a DR and cant avoid not looking at the TNT as the cause of the problem. Any other device on the network (except the TNT's) that are configure to be a DR do not cause any problems. So far, Lucent's answer from escalation on this was "why am I using the TNT as a router if is not intended to be used as a router or as a DR in OSPF?". I understand Lucent's point and yeah they are correct to say that the TNT is not a router but why put a functionality on the TNT if is not going to work correctly. I must say that it is to early to note whether the problem is the TNT or the Redback but like I said before, I cant exclude either one. Using these two OIDs together provide a very nice historical perspective on your dialup pool: http://www.psknet.com/Stats/Dialup_540.227.1515 As for figuring out what OIDs to use, this is a simple () matter of reading through the MIB for your version of TAOS. 1.3.6.1.4.1.529.4.21.1.xx gives these bits of info: .4 - total timeslots .6 - Line status (LA for normal operation) .7 - DS0 channels in use .12 - Idle DS0 channels .13 - DS0 channels in service For your traps, check out the *.trp files in the MIBS/mib directory located with the version of TAOS you're running. There was an instant where the TNT assigned an IP address in pool-base-address 2 for no apparent reason. We think it may have assigned it because there was no other IPs in 1 to assign. A '4000' may or may not have all 4 CSUs enabled. The 4004 does have all 4, but it's not reccomended to run it at a full load (maybe 72 modems total) The 4048 and 4002 only have 2 CSUs enabled, and can take up to 48 modems. Note that Lucent dropped all support for the 4000 series over a year ago (IIRC). If you're looking for some dialup equipment, I'd reccomend getting a 6096, which can take 4 T1/PRI and 96 modems. Stay away from the 6048, which only has 2 CSUs and 48 modems. For your modems, the ones with the -S56 on the end are V90 capable modems. The others are V34 only. -- Troy Settle Pulaski Networks 540.994.4254 - 866.477.5638 http://www.psknet.com ** -----Original Message----- ** From: owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com ** [mailto:owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com]On Behalf Of Vilmos Branyik ** Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2001 8:35 PM ** To: 'ascend-users@max.bungi.com' ** Subject: (ASCEND) Max modem specs ** ** ** Hello all! ** ** Sorry to ask such a silly question but I just can't seem to find ** the right ** answer. ** ** I'm looking for specs on some of the older Max products. Those short times are bound to modem-users, all ISDN dialups stay way longer. Additionally I can see in Diag 'avm': [..] Modem 2:8, 1985 calls, 441 bad, last 32 calls = 3ff6ffed dir=3 Modem 2:13, 2016 calls, 445 bad, last 32 calls = bffffefd dir=3 Modem 3:3, 699 calls, 164 bad, last 32 calls = bfbfeb1d dir=3 [..] Searched for that and found multiple references that this *can* be bound to incompatible V.90/X2 modems on the dialup side. Other references to "dead" modems are not likely, since: Modems on suspect list: Modems on disabled list: Modems on dead list: Modems on busy list: So, I need more "debug" to see, where/why the failures/hangups and those "bad" calls are coming from. pppif and pppfsm have been of no help for now. You can't do anything. The radius server logs file reports different kind of "security bridges from unknown client". If I'm going to MAX and open up a term. serv. and try to ping or traceroute it works fine and fast. Can you tell what's wrong here? Is it MAX or is it my radius server, and if it is one of them what is the exactly the problem? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <5.1.0.14.0.20011030141154.023bb2e0@mailhost2.liant.com> Hi all, Someone on this list recently asked how to reset a shelf-controller to it's factory defaults. I have the same question for a Pipeline-50 isdn router. The problem I'm having is from time to time, more often than I would like to admit, two routers connected via ISDN start racking up CRC errors, shortly followed by dropping the connection. This behavior seems to occur randomly - I've already checked the line quality with Ma Bell - she says all is good there. So, I thought I would go back to square 1, and start from there. Any ideas? -any clues greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark L. You must enable dial out on the MAX and do the appropriate "open" command in terminal server to query the target modem slot/port. FYI .... I've used on 6000's but not 2000's.
