Neither is HDB3 coding an option. What are the equivalent settings in this Lucent box? Has anyone set up E1s with R2 for voice? Do you use Radius authentication ? Most radius software allows you to disallow simultaneous logins, and because its done at a central point (the radius server) then it prevents a login which is logged into one box from connecting on a different box... When I do, the user can only connect as a Termserv - not PPP and quickly disconnects. I have a situation where there are two Maxes and no radius server (the customer uses NT for logins - don't ask me why) and they want to assign a static IP address to one of their customers. You can limit the logins in the RADIUS server. For example NavisRadius supports limit users in an entire network. http://www.lucentradius.com/ Tom ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com Archives: http://www.nexial.com/mailinglists/ From magic at area-net.com Mon Apr 8 11:58:38 2002 From: magic at area-net.com (Terry Lee, Publisher) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:01:56 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) MAXen and route summarization Message-ID: <024d01c1df1e$a0e59d20$cbe6160c@areanet.com> Hello friends, Can any of you clue me in as to the most efficient way to use Class C address blocks when assigning MAX6000 IP pools that will also take advantage of the so-called "route summarization" feature? The docs call for setting up address pools which are "network aligned" in order to facilitate route summarization. Since a MAX has (in our particular case) 92 usable modems, would it not seem best to break the class C's in half and subnet mask at 255.255.255.192 , allowing 2 "network aligned" MAXen to occupy each Class C? The only downside to this that I can see is a waste of 35 IPs per subnet. I use version TAOS 9.0.0. How TNT LAC tunnels MP sessions , if I use multistack configuration ? Will bundle owner combine links and then tunnel to LNS, or every unit in stack will tunnel every session separately to LNS ? How can I control LCP negotiation in case of l2tp implementation , if I would like to avoid preauthentication? The goal is to exclude LAC from LCP negotiation as much as possible and push client and LNS negotiate within LCP directly ( or to avoid LCP proxiing might be ??? ) . Is it possible to configure authentication protocol different from which I have in answer-defaults/ppp-answer for certain client recognizable by DNIS on LAC ? Incopatibility in auth protocols on LAC in LNS causes LCP renegotiation in my case. Thanks in advance. I assume here that by mentioning route summarization you're using some kind of dynamic routing protocol between your MAX box and your border router, rather than just having static routes on your border router to the max box ip pools ? >Since a MAX has (in our particular case) 92 usable modems, would it not seem >best to break the class C's in half and subnet mask at 255.255.255.192 , >allowing 2 "network aligned" MAXen to occupy each Class C? The only downside >to this that I can see is a waste of 35 IPs per subnet. Well, I wouldn't waste 35 IP addresses just to allow "route summarization", thats putting the cart before the horse :) (IP addresses are more precious than a few extra CPU cycles to handle slightly more subdivided routes, although the simpler the routing the better, in general) I'm not sure where you get 92 from - a MAX6096 has 96 modems, but if you use E1's for connection you get 30 incomming calls per E1, which works out to 90 if you use 3 E1's. (Maybe its different for T1's, I don't know) But anyway, if you use *two* routes, one a 255.255.255.192 and the other an adjacent 255.255.255.224 you get 64 addresses + 32 beside each other, which is 96. Take one address off if either end of the range falls at 0 or 255 to avoid problems with the /24's broadcast and network addresses, and you still have 95 available, which is a wastage of only 3 addresses per group. You could shared two MAX boxes on one class C, by breaking it up into two 255.255.255.255.192's and two 255.255.255.255.224's, and still have room for for another 255.255.255.192 for a third MAX. (But the third box will have to have its second group of 32 addresses on another subnet. Depends on how many MAX'en you have and how many class C's are available, theres a few possible arrangements, but you shouldn't have to waste more than a few addresses... Unfortunately, Ascend's route summarization doesn't work quite how you'd expect it (at least on our units, which admittedly are running older 8.x and 7.x TAOS builds). In order to use route summarizarion on address pools, you have to define even subnets of addresses, as you point out. However, TAOS treats the summary routes *as* subnets, so it doesn't let you use the first or last address. Using 192.168.1.0 as an example: Pool#1 start=192.168.1.129 # 192.168.1.128/26 Pool#1 count=62 Pool#2 start=192.168.1.193 # 192.168.1.192/27 Pool#2 count=30 Pool Summary=Yes When "Pool Summary" is turned on, the MAX does the following to each pool: * subtracts 1 from the start address * adds 2 to the count This yields valid subnets, which it advertises as summary routes. However, you pay for it because you lose 2 addresses for each pool, just as you do with a normal routed subnet. If you don't mind not having summary routes, you can certainly set "start" and "count" to whatever exact numbers you need, you'll just end up with a bunch of /32's in your routing table. Like I said, our units run older TAOS builds (because most of our units are 4048s, which don't run anything newer than 7.x). It's possible the summary behavior has changed in 9.x or later. YMMV. -James ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com Archives: http://www.nexial.com/mailinglists/ From ascenduser at yahoo.com Tue Apr 9 02:08:23 2002 From: ascenduser at yahoo.com (Jack Farad) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:01:57 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Re: (ASCEND) "debug" authorization !! I don't have the part number handy, but you should be able to give a reseller the part number off of a TNT fan and have them cross-reference it. You can only buy the fans, not the fan "tray" sides of the TNT. You have to disassmeble the TNT (_lots_ of screws, so make notes), cut the connector off the old fan, solder/crimp the connector on the new fan (they just have bare leads), and then reassemble. -- Chris Adams Systems and Network Administrator - HiWAAY Internet Services I don't speak for anybody but myself - that's enough trouble. > At 09:53 AM 4/10/2002 -0500, Chris Adams wrote: > >Once upon a time, ISPstuff said: > > > Does anyone have a good replacement fan source for the Lucent Ascend TNT > > > that they are willing to share? If you're using a recent version of Cistron it includes a program called radrelay that can be set up to do bi-directional replication of accounting data. That way it doesnt matter whether your MAX box sends accounting records to either server, they get immediately replicated across to the other one, so both have an up to date session database. I've opened a ticket with Lucent on it, however I don't believe they see the severity in it. -- ------ Jason Nealis Sr. Director Internet Systems and Services RCN (NASDAQ) RCNC ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com Archives: http://www.nexial.com/mailinglists/ From tigr at oskom.ru Fri Apr 19 07:11:52 2002 From: tigr at oskom.ru (Orlov Alex) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:02:00 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Re: (ASCEND) Suspect ?! I am in the process of setting one up to use the two BRI's (ISND lines) as a way to bring in a 256k connection to one of my offices. The lines appear to have configured properly, however; only one of the BRI's is working and it is only using one of the B-channels and even that is not a consistant connection. Due to the areas that all 4 of my offices are located, we have single ISDN lines at the other 3 locations that are all reliable and seldom hiccup. Now that we have had to bring in dual ISDN lines to the 4th location, and it is the only on that I am having problems with. Any input on this Lucent/Ascend router is greatly appreciated. I appologize for the vagueness of my question, but wasn't sure where to begin. I'll be happy to provide any further information. Thanks in advance! A.J. Message-ID: Hi Alex Are the 4x30 modem cards the only modem cards you have? do you have the older MX-SL-16MOD-S56 cards you can try? The diagnostic command I was referring to is "Lanport Modem" which you can type from the diagnostics prompt (CTRL-D, D). For your information I have copied the section from the relevant max6k manual below (Administration Guide). cheers paul ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- MAX Administration Guide B-37 Lanport Modem Description: Displays a report on the status of the availability of modems in the MAX unit. Each time you enter avm, you get a snapshot of current modem states and the recent history for each modem. The command is particularly helpful in troubleshooting modem connection problems, for which you must focus on the ability of individual modems to successfully connect with dial-in users. A call is noted as successful if modem handshaking (training) and authentication are successful. A call is noted as "bad" if modem handshaking fails at any point in the initial call set-up, or if the dial-in user does not successfully log in. The dir parameter indicates the direction of the last call into each modem. It can have the following settings: 1-Call direction unknown. 2-Call was outgoing. 3-Call was incoming. A modem is moved to the suspect list if its first four calls are bad, or if it experiences eight bad calls in a row. Modems on the suspect list can still be used if all free modems are in use. Any subsequent successful call to a suspect modem places that modem back on the free list. Note: A call that has been categorized as bad does not necessarily indicate a modem problem with the MAX unit. Poor line quality, software problems with the calling modem, wrong numbers, and forgotten passwords all can generate calls that appear as bad calls but have nothing to do with modems on the MAX unit. Usage: Enter lanport modem at the command prompt. Example: In the following display, an 8-mod modem card is located in slot 8 of the MAX unit. Modems 8:5 and 8:6 are in use. Modems 8:2, 8:3, 8:4, 8:7, and 8:8 are idle and available to accept calls. Modem 1 has been disabled by the V.34 Modem > Modem Diag > Modem #1 parameter. > lanport modem Modems on free list: Modem 8:4, 70 calls, 6 bad, last 32 calls = ffdffbfc dir=3 Modem 8:8, 54 calls, 1 bad, last 32 calls = ffffffff dir=3 Modem 8:3, 63 calls, 1 bad, last 32 calls = fffbffff dir=3 Modem 8:2, 74 calls, 1 bad, last 32 calls = ffffffff dir=3 Modem 8:7, 64 calls, 2 bad, last 32 calls = ffbfffbf dir=3 Modems on suspect list: Modem 8:1, 57 calls, 0 bad, last 32 calls = ffffff00 dir=3 Modems on disabled list: Modems on dead list: Modems on busy list: Modem 8:5, 65 calls, 2 bad, last 32 calls = fffffffd dir=3 Modem 8:6, 58 calls, 1 bad, last 32 calls = ffffffff dir=3 Looking at modem 4 on slot 8 (designated 8:4), the eight-digit hexadecimal number has to be converted to binary to indicate how many of the last 32 calls were successful: ffdffbfc = 11111111110111111111101111111100 The zeroes show that modem 8:4 has had four unsuccessful calls, including the last two calls. After the hexadecimal number, dir=3 indicates that the last call was an incoming call. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- > No, I think It`s a MAX OS (TAOS) error, or a unit error - becouse some > my friends use MAX 6000 and have a simple problems.. > Your (lucent) support recommend Me to install TAOS 9.0.9... > but this bug is in the 9.0.9 to... > You say about line fault - but I check it with my phone > operator, trunk is UP, and work property. > I have a 4x30 ditial modem cards, and I try to remove one or > two cards, change slot - but bug is permanetly. > > >But How I CAN CHECK HARDWARE? >I`m not a tech lab (for example - lucent tech lab...) >Unit worked, but this bug with suspect... ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com Archives: http://www.nexial.com/mailinglists/ From ascenduser at yahoo.com Tue Apr 23 01:05:02 2002 From: ascenduser at yahoo.com (Jack Farad) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:02:00 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) Assigning a shelf to ethernet port? This unit is running TAOS 7.2.4, and has the Series-3 56K modem cards installed in it. As it stands, it will accept modem calls, and the users can log in. Where I have a problem is that I need to get it to also accept ISDN data calls as well, and also ISDN Data Over Voice if possible. If I make a 64K DATA call to the unit, it acts like it's answering with a modem, so after about a half minute drops the line and no login is ever made. I have multiple numbers assigned to the unit as I was told this was needed to ISDN DOSBS type services. If anyone has any working Modem/ISDN configs, and could share them, or provide any insight that might help me get this all working it would very much be appreciated. We can move all the lines from outside the campus to one Modem card, and if the idea is possible, we'll create a special VLAN for those users. please advice... Message-ID: Jack, The solution is to use vrouters. Create one vrouter for your "limited" users and assign the users to this vrouter. You will need to assign one of the ethernet ports to this vrouter as well because ethernet ports can not be shared between vrouters. Let the regular users use the main or default vrouter and the two shall never mix inside your TNT. It is very easy. Assign the vrouter to users with the Ascend-Vrouter-Name RADIUS attribute, or if you use local profiles, with the "vrouter" parameter in the CONNECTION profile. You only need to do anything special for the "limited" users since the default is the main vrouter anyway. -Joe >Date: Wed, 24 Apr 2002 13:56:53 -0700 (PDT) > >Hi Paul, >Actually, my main goal is to control the users by >using VLAN's. (HELP) Message-ID: If you have true, honest-to-god, ISDN lines, it should work out of the box. Did you play around with call-routes? :-) Try this: for each _modem_ card, issue these commands: admin> slot -d admin> slot -r admin> slot -u Replace '' with the slot number corresponding to each modem card. Do not do it for other cards! This will restore the call-routes back to their defaults. Verify your T1 profiles. This is the typical output from one of our TNTs for an ISDN line: admin> save con t1 { 1 1 1} ; configuration ; saved from tntsr 9.0.9 ; saved Sat Apr 27 9:13:46 2002 new T1 set name = T-8739 set physical-address shelf = shelf-1 set physical-address slot = slot-1 set physical-address item-number = 1 set line-interface enabled = yes set line-interface frame-type = esf set line-interface encoding = b8zs set line-interface signaling-mode = isdn set line-interface channel-config 24 channel-usage = d-channel write -f That's all you should really have there. For DOVBS, you will need additional call-routes, but let's leave that for later. See if the above makes analog and digital calls work. >From: "Howard Leadmon" >To: "'Marco C. Make sure that you set Net/T1 / Line Config / Factory / Line x / Ch x Slot=0 so that the MAX can route the calls to either modem or HDLC based on the information it gets from the ISDN. A true ISDN will contain an information element telling the type of caller, ie, voice call (modem) vs. data call (digital). Don't mix ISDN and CT1 on the same box. Why is the real function of Flashcard, only stores the device drivers of TNT slot cards, or works like a volatile memory too? Thanks in advance. First, if a call is made in via modem is seems to work just fine, but ISDN connections fail. I also just verified with the switch people that we are set for nat-isdn-2 for the switch type, plus all your settings below for the interfaces match what we have on this side. What happens is that if an ISDN call is made to the TNT, the status on the TNT shows 64K which seems a good thing. What doesn't happen is the authentication, nothing is ever sent to the radius server, so never a username, or anything assigned to the user. On the remote side I am testing from (Pipeline-75), it never shows the 64K in the status screen, just sits there and times out and then disconnects. On the other hand if we make a normal modem call to the TNT, I can get connected, and authenticate via Radius with no problems. I don't think there are different radius profiles that would affect this are there?? Any other ideas, or places I should be looking?
