Hi Chris,

a search on the MS Knowledgebase (http://support.microsoft.com) found
this:

Article Q174614
IE may timeout if DNS caching is turned off.

Windows can resolve host names by various means: querying a DNS, looking
up the LMHOSTS file, looking up the HOSTS file (in this order). When a
WAN link is down the DNS may not be reached in time. If you turn on DNS
caching resolved names will be held in memory till the next reboot.

To activate the caching, paste this into a plain text file (named
DNSon.reg) and execute it

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings]
"DnsCacheEnabled"=dword:00000001

or edit the registry yourself.

In the article they offer a download of a file named timeout.exe which
is a self-extracting archive. It contains the above text file for
instant use.

Let us know if it helped.

Best regards,

   Wolfgang
