Message-ID: On a MAX6000, the easiest way to recover it is with a PCMCIA flash card containing known good code. The easiest way to store good code in it is to install the PCMCIA flash card on a working 6000 and tload new code into it. The working 6000 doesn't need to be rebooted and it will not be affected in any way, since the PCMCIA card is hot-swappable. Once the PCMCIA card contains good code, plug it in the failing 6000 and power it on. It will find the PCMCIA card during boot and boot from it. After the 6000 boots (it may take two boots), you can remove the card if you want. You still need to update the code in the on-board flash of the failing 6000, but now it is easier since you have working code. Make sure you connect to the console port, in case the config is lost. BTW, do not confuse the TNT's DRAM card (which is JEDEC and *NOT* hot-swappable) with a PCMCIA flash card. They are quite different and it is very easy to burn a DRAM card! I would like to monitor Calling Number (for Dial-in Users). My MAX6000 was working just fine. Then I asked the Telecom (Egypt) to send Calling Number ID (CLID) to be monitored by us. (E1-R2 signaling with Swithcing type = CAS and Framing mode = 2DS) Till now my Max do not understand R2 signaling with calling number send by our telecom (Egypt) as it seemed to me. Why my Max do not process R2 signaling for Egypt correctly? (even when TAOS was upgraded from 7.0.3 to 9.0.6) Note : The options for R2 signaling available in 9.0.6 do not include Egypt. The Max understands the Called Number (DNIS) but not CLID How to adjust it to understand this CLID in my country? PLEASE HELP Also I have another very annoying problem: The Max takes about 25 seconds after getting a call in the line and to start negotiation with the call. Then it takes about 30 seconds or more in the negotiation process I would like to reduce this time as possible. I understand that this negotiation time depends on the compression methods used at the two ends. I've tried all options with no success. Can any one help Please ...? The max >is connected to cisco catalyst 2924, we have changed the duplex and speed >settings but nothing helps. We've seen that too. In our case, it was the use of filters _an another port_ (T1 in our case) that broke Ethernet. You'll see strange stuff with 'show arp' where it can't even resolve devices on its local network. Removing the filters fixed it. When it occurred with us we swapped the DSL Max 20 with another and the problem occurred on the new one. More proof that it wasn't hardware. OTOH, we've applied other filters with no difficulty on those Max 20s and others. On a DSL Terminator 100, applying a filter to a lightly-loaded Ethernet port caused ping times through any interface on the box to exceed 4000 ms. I opened tickets on all this stuff years ago, but nothing ever happened other than, occasionally, an engineer would call me and promise to fix everything. -- Peter Lalor ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com Archives: http://www.nexial.com/mailinglists/ From Dale.Foster at chron.com Wed Mar 13 08:03:36 2002 From: Dale.Foster at chron.com (Foster, Dale) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:01:49 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Monitoring T1 on MAX Message-ID: <901D241E5C0AD511BEEB00600845C2DD06E12D@boffice4> Anyone know of any software to plot or graph the T1 utilization on a Max4000. TEL 31-623-722-849 FAX 31-619-138-901 Dear Sir, CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS PROPOSAL You may be surprised to receive this letter from me, since you do not know me personally. I am ABDUL MOMOH, the first son of NDIATA MOMOH, the most popular black farmer in Zimbabwe. He was recently murdered in the land dispute in my country. I got your contact through network online hence decided to write you. Before the death of my father, he had taken me to Johannesburg to deposit the sum of US8.5 million (Eight million, Five Hundred United States dollars), in one of the private security company, as he foresaw the looming danger in Zimbabwe. This money was deposited in a box as gemstones to avoid much demurrage from Security Company. This amount was meant for the purchase of new machines and chemicals for the farms and establishment of new farms in Swaziland. This land problem came when Zimbabwean President Mr. Robert Mugabe introduced a new land Act Reform wholly affecting the rich white farmers and some few black farmers, and this resulted to the killing and mob action by Zimbabwean war veterans and some lunatics in the society. In fact a lot of people were killed because of this Land reform Act for which my father was one of the victims. It is against this background that, my family and I fled Zimbabwe for fear of our lives and are currently staying in the Netherlands where we are seeking political asylum and more so, have decided to transfer my fathers money to a more reliable foreign account. Since the law of Netherlands prohibits a refugee (asylum seeker) to have such amount of money in any bank account or to be involved in any financial transaction of such magnitude throughout the territorial zone of Netherlands. As the eldest son of my father, I am saddled with the responsibility of seeking a genuine foreign account where this money could be transferred without the knowledge of my government who are bent on taking everything we have got. The South African government seems to be playing along with them. I am faced with the dilemma of moving this amount of money out of South Africa for fear of going through the same experience in future, both countries have similar political history. As a businessman, I am seeking for a partner, who I have to entrust my future and that of my family in his hands. I must let you know that this transaction is risk free. If you accept to assist my family, and me all I want you to do for me, is to make an arrangement with the security company to clear the consignment (funds) from their affiliate office here in the Netherlands. I have already given directives for the consignment to be brought from South Africa to The Netherlands. But before then all modalities will have to be put in place like change of ownership of the consignment and more importantly this money I intend to use for investment. I have two options for you. Firstly I can give you certain percentage of the money for nominating your account for this transaction. Or you can go into partnership with me for the proper profitable investment in your country. Whichever option you want, feel free to notify me. I have also mapped out 5% of this money for all kinds of expenses incurred in the process of this transaction. Contact me with the above telephone/fax numbers or E-mail while I implore you to maintain the absolute secrecy required in this transaction. Thanks, GOD BLESS YOU Yours Faithfully, Abdul Momoh. _________________________________________ Download mersal and add me as a friend :) http://www.arabia.com/mersal/english ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com Archives: http://www.nexial.com/mailinglists/ From bogus@does.not.exist.com Sat Mar 16 04:13:50 2002 From: bogus@does.not.exist.com (662378@) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:01:51 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) (8918AAWi8-137Jvwr1133taoj0-827z@29) Message-ID: <000d65e70ded$6377a5e6$7de78ba6@obscyt> [4760Yd@6] ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com Archives: http://www.nexial.com/mailinglists/ From howardl at abs.net Sat Mar 16 20:43:27 2002 From: howardl at abs.net (Howard Leadmon) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:01:51 2005 Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) Max TNT and Livingston Radius Auth Trouble.. Message-ID: <008a01c1cd5d$84993410$f60aa8c0@leadmon.net> I am having a problem with a MAX-TNT and getting it to do a radius authentication talking to Livingston radiusd 2.1. I know, why use the Livingston stuff, well we have a bunch of PM-3's that have been in use for years, and just happened on a great deal on a TNT-MAX, so decided to add it to the stockpile of access servers. So as you can see I need a radiusd that can talk to both PM-3's and the MAX-TNT as both will be in service. Anyway if I have the TNT take and try and authenticate a user from an entry that is in the users file, all works just great. Where the problem is, if I try and have it authenticate a user that is in the unix password file. If I try that, the radius server barks back the following: radius[85750]: unix_pass: password for "joeblow" failed OK, sounds like a general password problem, well I would agree, other than the fact if I have the user call one of the PM-3's the authentication is successful. So only attempts from the Max-TNT fail, which I thought was really strange. Also if I look at my syslog output from the MAX, I see stuff like this: Mar 16 20:03:15 max1 1/6: [1/6/15/0] LAN security error: [MBID 521; ->4239193] [Answer] Anyway I would love to get this MAX up and running, if I need to use a different radiusd to be compatible with both Ascend and Livingston, I guess that is what I will have to do, but would be nice if I could just get it working with my current radiusd that has been running it seems like forever. If anyone has experience with making Livingston radius 2.1 work with an Ascend Max TNT, and could give me some pointers it would be very much appreciated. Not sure if it matters, but the TNT is running TAOS 7.2, as I think that is the latest version we can run with a couple of the cards that are in the unit. --- Howard Leadmon - hdl@abs.net - http://www.abs.net ABSnet Internet Services - Phone: 410-361-8160 - FAX: 410-361-8162 ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com Archives: http://www.nexial.com/mailinglists/ From DPascarella at solunet.com Mon Mar 18 09:00:32 2002 From: DPascarella at solunet.com (DPascarella@solunet.com) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:01:51 2005 Subject: [Ascend] RE: (ASCEND) MAX6000 Question Message-ID: <719546A93D7DD511BA7800D0B7A87DF074EC30@trinidad.solunet.com> Hi David, After you upgrade, check to see if you still have the "dual slot T1" feature enable in your sys-options status window. I've started with 8.x and above and didn't have this Problem. I still don't think it's Firmware related. The former Ascend-Radius was still based on Carl Rigneys work with some ascend-extensions. Message-ID: <004101c1d07d$652f4290$f60aa8c0@leadmon.net> Hi All.. I am sure this is probably in the docs, but I am really trying to get some ports on this thing going ASAP so figured I would kick it off to the list. I am trying to replace some PM3's with a MAX TNT, and one of the things the PM3's supported so well was the ability to do ISDN Data over a Voice Bearer line, as in this area they charge you .02 per channel/min for data, but nothing for voice under some services classes. So for many, they are happy to go at 56K instead of 64K to avoid the per minute charges. Anyway I have the TNT answering and taking Modem and ISDN 64K data calls, but if I try and make an ISDN DOSBS (Voice) call, it just gets directed to a modem from what I can tell. As the call is accepted, just sets there, never actually authenticates, and finally drops 30-60 seconds later as a failed call. Can anyone here give me any pointers as to what needs to be done to enable the MAX TXT to accept such calls like my old PM3's used to do just fine. There's no a real issue here, but it seems to me that, according to the CERT advisories of February, almost every SNMP Implementation seems to contain some security flaws, mostly buffer overflows and the like. Accordingly, I figured for my Max4000 boxes that there was indeed a new release (7.0.28) in February. The release notes only state an obscure note that "7.0.28 includes improved resistance to Denial of Service attempts". I concluded that this might include fixes for SNMP flaws and upgraded. With 7.2.4 and 8.x, the last releases are somewhat older -- so does that mean that there aren't any problems there? Martin -- Dr. Martin Pauly Fax: 49-6421-28-26994 HRZ Univ. These were old Telebit Netblazers which ran for ever but buffers would fill and cause a reboot. With the 6096's that I run, I usually look for around 200 - 300 million Rx packets which for us puts us in the 40 - 50 day range and then we'll do the 2 - 3 minute boot. It appears to not hurt in anyway and usually clears any modems that were having a dialin situation or put on the bad modem call list. This is just a personal experience and not written in any manual I have read. This method is not broken for us, so we don't try and fix it. Hope this helps. ------- R. Hall NET-LINK Corp. Might be worth a check in the Net/T1 area if this is line 1 on the max. Check under Line Config, Factory, Line 1..., Check the clock source= If set to Yes, then the Telco is providing the clocking. If set to no then your upstream or your CSU is providing the clocking which may be a problem. While there you might as well check to make sure the line encoding is what the Telco has set on their side [ie. D4 or ESF]. If you can check your syslog or set up one to monitor line activity on this max, it will show line errors if they are ocurring no matter whose side they eminate from. The Telco 'can' set up your Channelized T1 service such that the trunk answers calls by channel in sequential order. As time goes on you will see this gets out of sequence as channels are dialed into and used but the next channel in sequential order should be the one dialed into. [ie. channel 1,2,3,4 busy, channel 5 picks up the next call] If you were to reset the max you should see channel 1 as the first channel dialed into. Usually we test something like this in the very early morning hours where dialup is nil or minimal. Dial in 1x, Hangup and the 2nd channel to pick up should be channel 2 and so on from there. This is how you can test to make sure all 24 channels are operational. If you have a good rep at the telco and explain the overall situation, you might even have them test like this from their side. Iniitially we do something like this with a new Ch T1 to make sure all channels operate before we sign off on it and make it customer available. Using a syslog during this testing can show you exactly the channel and port on the modem card that is being dialed into. Hope this helps. ------- R. I have had great service, stability and performance from the Lucent PM3 units, but since they are EOL w/ no upgrade path, and I need to update my capacity, I am seriously looking at the possibility of replacing the units with either Cisco or Lucent APX gear. The incredible availability and low cost of used APX and TNT Max gear has me looking seriously at the platform. I have been, and continue to be, a Livingston PM3 biggot. Livingston did a Case Study on our organization several years back, and quite frankly I have always been extremely happy with the PM3 units. However, as our company continues to acquire new customer bases, I have been forced with the management and ongoing support issues that are inherent in units that take only 2 T-1 lines. Right now, I have a DS-3 w/ 24 T1 lines muxed out into 12 PM3 units. It is a pain in the ass to manage the 96 cables that connect these units to my power, network and MUX. I would like a single box that handles all of this. That being said, I need to find a unit that will take a DS-3 and will provide room to grow. I need to be able to offer V.90 and ISDN on any port and would also like the ability to terminate T-1 circuits on the unused DS3 channels. I am very much concerned about the modem compatability that the units will give me. The biggest gripe I have with the PM3 is that it has issues with certain modems. I know all access servers have their problems, but if I am going to switch platforms, I want to go with the one that provides the widest level of compatibility with the modems that are out there. In a nutshell, here is what I need to do with the unit: 1. Inbound V.90 and ISDN on all ports. 2. Outbound ISDN capability 3. Radius Support for AUTH/ACCT 4. DS-3 termination and de-muxing 5. Dual Redundant AC Power Supplies 6. Ability to terminate T1 circuits via DS3 If anyone has any comments or suggestions, I am all ears! -- Vice President of New Age Consulting Service, Inc.
