Message-ID: <5.1.0.14.2.20020901105154.0292f208@mail.sportsline.com> Whats up Ascend users... I have an issue with a MAX-1800 and NAT. I am doing IP only and have 8 bri interfaces. I am running 6.0.4 fbck.m18 What I am trying to do is dial into a partner site and hide all my traffic as a 172. addr. to this network. I am not being assigned an IP address by this partner. I have my local net, with hosts and the MAX. I can successfully connect to the partner and ftp to their ftp servers. I have static routes on the MAX for their servers to the LAN address of their router specified in my connection profile. Pretty simple connection. In my connection profile, under IP options, I have the LAN address of the remote end router, and as the IF ADRS, I have an IP on the same network, which is the address I want our traffic hidden behind. I have tried this scenario with and without an IF adrs in the connection profile. They have another set of servers I need to reach. I will only be able to reach if I am hidden behind a 172 address, since they will not add static routes for my return traffic, since the are publicly routable (which I suppose is against their policies). I have used NAT to connect pipelines to ISPs and hide a localnet behind the ISP assigned addr, but the MAX is not setup like this, and when I enable NAT weird things happen. I have download m18net.pdf and read it. First thing I do is : go to ETHERNET-----> NAT and turn Routing to YES. for Profile, I put the ethernet connection profile name. LAN is set to Single IP addr As soon as I save this, my default route gets changed to the LAN address on the connection profile. Since this is a problem, I disabled the default route and added static routes back to my local nets, so if the default route gets mangled, Im not stuck to console only. For the FR address ( and I know Im not using FrameRelay), if I leave at 0.0.0.0 or put an IP address on the same network as the BRI interface (LAN Address) I am able to ping the first set of servers, but FTP does not work. I can not ping the second set of servers or FTP. So my questions are this: 1) Is what I am trying to do possible? 2) Will I need to add static mappings back to the hosts that need to access hosts using this connection? Is appears as if the return traffic is not making it. 3) Why does the default route change when I enable NAT and traffic is sent to this remote network? Any help is greatly appreciated. -Rob Robert Geller, CCSA, CCSE Sportsline Network Operations 2200 West Cypress Creek Rd. I am currently in charge of a small office network and a specific database program that we have purchased and installed is not working correctly. The authors need PC anywhere access through our router to help diagnose and correct the issues with the database. In order to do this they have asked for me to configure the Pipeline to: Allow their public IP: 66.152.236.146 across any firewall that may be set up in the router and also forward IP request from them (66.152.236.146) to the static IP address of my router for ports 5631 and 5632 to 192.168.1.100. There is also a SWAN (Serial WAN) module available that is v.35, I believe. If you use the 8-port CT1 module, you must have available HDLC resources in order to nail up channels for a PPP connection to another router. Otherwise, the 10-port module has built in HDLC resources and can also be multilinked w/ Frame Relay. After you have met the HW requirements, all that is needed is to nail up the channels you want to use ( for channelized T1modules), build a connection profile for the link, and specify the nailed group # in the connection profile. It's covered in the docs for more details. Good Luck, David Pascarella CCNP MCSE LCTE A+ Network Support Engineer SOLUServe TAC 1571 Robert J. Since they use dial-up return, I have to proxy the satellite provider's dynamic IP address back to the user via RADIUS. That is working, but something is preventing packets with their source address from getting back to the satellite provider. I asked my regular backbone provider, Sprint, if they were filtering and if they would allow this traffic, but they say they are not limiting it now. I tried applying data filters in my Max 6096 (my border router) to forward these packets, but this has no effect. Anything else I can try? However the manual is written for software version 8.0 and I can't seem to download a new version of the TAOS for our MAX 4000, the lucent website only allows the 4000 to upgrade to 7.0.4. The problem being that we don't have the Allow-Extern-Config-Rqsts option in 7.0.4. Is there another way to stop TAOS from asking for psuedo user profiles? They really clog up out logs. Forgive me if this question has already been answered. I spent a few hours looking through your lists and have still not figured out the solution to my question. I'm fairly new to Ascend equipment so please be kind. Here goes... I have an Ascend 6096 with 2 16 bank modem cards tied to a PRI running TAOS 8.0.3. It has ISDN sig installed and data call enabled. All authentication requests for 28.8 - 56k modem dialup communication validate through or Radius server as necessary and connections are established. I now try to connect with an ISDN router using PAP. Our Ascend 6096 / and Radius server is configured for PAP. I try to connect to the 6096 via ISDN from a remote location. The message log displays the following: Assigned to port Call Connected Call Terminated (Total time is about 1/2 - 1 second) After this the connection ends and restarts with the same error as above. The show isdn command states the following: NL: CALL CLEARED WITH CAUSE: 16 B1 #9999999 NL: ANSWER REQUEST: B1 NL: CALL CONNECTED B1 #9999999 NL: CALL CLEARED WITH CAUSE: 16 B1 #9999999 NL: ANSWER REQUEST: B1 NL: CALL CONNECTED B1 #9999999 NL: CALL CLEARED WITH CAUSE: 16 B1 #9999999 NL: ANSWER REQUEST: B1 NL: CALL CONNECTED B1 #9999999 NL: CALL CLEARED WITH CAUSE: 16 B1 #9999999 NL: ANSWER REQUEST: B1 NL: CALL CONNECTED B1 #9999999 NL: CALL CLEARED WITH CAUSE: 16 B1 #9999999 NL: ANSWER REQUEST: B1 NL: CALL CONNECTED B1 #9999999 NL: CALL CLEARED WITH CAUSE: 16 B1 #9999999 NL: ANSWER REQUEST: B1 NL: CALL CONNECTED B1 #9999999 NL: CALL CLEARED WITH CAUSE: 16 B1 #9999999 NL: ANSWER REQUEST: B3 (9999999 is the phone number I took out ours for obvious reaons) My first thoughts was an issue with Radius. My Radius server displays no error message of failed logins or any of the such. Which I thought was quite strange. So I went ahead and did a tcpdump on the Radius Server...stranger yet...the radius server is not even getting any information during the login process. So we are stuck back at square one... We get connected... We get our port... We get disconnected... We never authenticate through this process. Possible senerios we have come up with... 1. The auth time is too short for the ISDN to authenticate...how do I lengthen this? And if this is the case why does 56k authenticate? 2. PAP will not work for some reason? This dialup router has been used in the past with PAP though so this reason is quite possibly out of the question, unless there is some issue I am not aware of with . 3. A Telco Problem? We have called them. They have stated there is nothing wrong with the line. They are doing more testing tomarrow to verify. (still up in the air) 4. For some strange reason unknown, it drops all ISDN connections once it realizes they are a data call? Seeing that 56k access works perfectly this is something that makes sense but in theory only...seeing that we have no clue how to verify this. Any help would be great guys. Thanks for reading. -Kyle bt@wantoolbox.com ps The ISDN Router we are using is a cisco 804. It has been used to connect to 3 other ISPS with no issues. Also, you may want to run a syslog server for the MAX and see what pops up in there. It sounds like a software/hardware error that is hijacking CPU processes. Sometimes, when this happens, you will see a fatal 1 or 2 in the history log. If you DO see those specific errors, I'd recommend reloading your current TAOS rev. or upgrading to a 9.0.x. Even if all else fails, you may want to upgrade, anyway as a last resort. It may not be an issue with that specific code rev, but rather that it is somehow corrupted and is causing problems. I have also tried binding a connection profile to a given vrouter, as well as multiple ip-routes for each dial-in pool w/ inter-vrouter set accordingly. I don't necessarily have to use vrouters and have a separate routing table per interface, I would just like to simply have pool-1-3 go out x interface. using an APX 8000 btw. thanks in advance bryan -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... That is, only when all other available modems are in use, will the MAX route calls to a 'suspect' modem. You shouldn't get a busy signal from this if the modem(s) are not dead or disabled. If you have T1's and are specifying a channel to be routed to the modem slot where the suspect modem exists, you may want to change 'slot = n' where 'n' is a modem slot without any suspect, dead, or disabled modems. Disregard if you have PRI's. I had a recent case where someone had a 3048 with 2 T1's and a modem went 'bad'. So he manually disabled it but did not disable one of the channels to prevent a 'channel > modem' configuration. Subsequently, the 3048 would try to route the 48th available channel to the 'disabled' modem, anyway, and he would see CRC's skyrocket and the call fail. Strange but true. Why the MAX would still route a call to a disabled modem, I have no idea. When he disable 1 channel, his problem disappeared. Also, to reset the modem's status, you may want to disable and re-enable the modem slot that contains the suspect modems and recheck the list. Or, if that fails to clear it, reset the MAX during an available maintenance window. The previous night I was gettting busy signals although I had what appeared to be a lot of free modems. When I opened the "Modem Pools" window in NavisAccess I noticed that the modems listed as "Suspect" were subtracted from the row of "Available Modems", so naturally I figured "Suspect" modems were somehow being made unavailable and that that was the cause of the busys. Apparently the busys were another issue because last night I had so many modems marked suspect (due to ongoing telco issues) that the "Available modems" columns all had big fat zeros in them, yet no busys were encountered. Obviously just a bad choice of column headings for Ascend in the Modem Pools applet. -Terry **************************************************************************** ******** Hi Terry, Typically, 'suspect' modems are placed on the virtual 'bottom' of the modem list to be used as a last resort. Hope this helps, David Pascarella Solunet TAC www.solunet.com -----Original Message----- From: Terry Lee, Publisher [mailto:magic@area-net.com] Sent: Sunday, September 22, 2002 3:28 PM To: ascend-users@max.bungi.com Subject: [Ascend] (ASCEND) Suspect Modems Friends, I have a couple of MAXen that are flagging many modems as "Suspect Modems" due to some kind of errors occuring on the trunks that is cutting calls off. It seems that these modems, once marked as suspect, are not available for use by the MAX, resulting in busy signals. Is there a quick & easy way to reset the "Suspect Modem" flags, or at least let the MAX assign these modems in spite of their status? As far as I can tell, the circuit between the DACS and CPE is flawless. The DS1s were from a different phone company. This chassis itself is known to be good, as it was in production for about 9 months before I switched from the ILEC to the CLEC. The DS3 card is also known to be good (I pulled it myself from the other chassis after moving the PRI from a MUX to a regular DS3). On the customer side, we're talking about several hundred customers that were dialing into 6000's and 4000's without issue (7.0.26). After porting our access numbers to a CLEC and taking our PRI over DS3 into the TNT (9.0.2), these problems started occurring. Please see Terry's post (which you also replied to). We just cut him over from the ILEC to the CLEC last week, and he noticed the problems immediately (same equipment and config). Unforutnately, he doesn't have enough historical data to show what's going on. I've got one other ISP that I'm hoping will be able to provide additional info for us to take to the table. Laying between the ILEC's tandem and the CLEC, is a DS3 from a local fiber carrier. I guess we really need to look towards the trunking between telcos to find out what's going on. -- Troy Settle Pulaski Networks http://www.psknet.com 540.994.4254 - 866.477.5638 ++ Ascend Users Mailing List ++ To unsubscribe: send unsubscribe to ascend-users-request@bungi.com Archives: http://www.nexial.com/mailinglists/ From mjohnson32 at 37.com Tue Sep 24 13:29:25 2002 From: mjohnson32 at 37.com (Johnson Mowete) Date: Tue Jan 18 14:02:31 2005 Subject: [Ascend] Urgent Assistance Message-ID: <200209241830.g8OIURd28930@sprite.real-time.com> TEL:+31-641-229-662 CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS PROPOSAL You may be surprised to receive this letter from me since you do not know me personally. The purpose of my introduction is that I am Johnson Mowete, the first son of Frank Mowete ,the most popular black farmer in Zimbabwe who was recently murdered in the land dispute in my country. I got your contact through network online hence decided to write you. Before the death of my father, he had taken me to Johannesburg to deposit the sum of US8.5 million (Eight million, Five Hundred thousand United States dollars), in one of the private security company, as he foresaw the looming danger in Zimbabwe this money was deposited in a box as gem stones to avoid much demurrage from security company. This amount was meant for the purchase of new machines and chemicals for the Farms and establishment of new farms in Swaziland. This land problem came when Zimbabwean President Mr.Robert Mugabe introduced a new Land Act Reform wholly affecting the rich white farmers and some few black farmers, and this resulted to the killing and mob action by Zimbabwean war veterans and some lunatics in the society. In fact a lot of people were killed because of this Land reform Act for which my father was one of the victims. It is against this background that, I and my family fled Zimbabwe for fear of our lives and are currently staying in the Netherlands where we are seeking political asylum and moreso have decided to transfer my father?s money to a more reliable foreign account. since the law of Netherlands prohibits a refugee (asylum seeker) to open any bank account or to be involved in any financial transaction throughout the territorial zone of Netherlands, As the eldest son of my father, I am saddled with the responsibility of seeking a genuine foreign account where this money could be transferred without the knowledge of my government who are bent on taking everything we have got. The South African government seems to be playing along with them. I am faced with the dilemma of moving this amount of money out of South Africa for fear of going through the same experience in future, both countries have similar political history. As a businessman,I am seeking for a partner who I have to entrust my future and that of my family in his hands, I must let you know that this transaction is risk free. If you accept to assist me and my family, all I want you to do for me, is to make an arrangements with the security company to clear the consignment(funds) from their afiliate office here in the Netherlands as i have already given directives for the consignment to be brought to the Netherlands from South Africa. But before then all modalities will have to be put in place like change of ownership to the consignment and more importantly this money I intend to use for investment. I have two options for you. Firstly you can choose to have certain percentage of the money for nominating your account for this transaction. Or you can go into partnership with me for the proper profitable investment of the money in your country. Whichever the option you want, feel free to notify me. I have also mapped out 5% of this money for all kinds of expenses incurred in the process of this transaction. If you do not prefer a partnership I am willing to give you 10% of the money while the remaining 85% will be for my investment in your country. Contact me with the above telephone number and through my private E-mail address(mjohnson239@excite.com)or(mjohnson@hotvoice.com), while I implore you to maintain the absolute secrecy required in this transaction. Both are experiencing call drops during negotiation and both are showing 45 - 50 modems in a suspect state. TNT1 running 9.0.6 with 5 Series 56 II Digital Modem Cards totalling 240 modems. I have 47 modems in a suspect state, multiple modems on multiple cards, all Inbound T1 lines look clean. TNT2 running 8.0.5 with 2 Series 56 II cards and 4 Series 56 Cards (Full Size) totalling 288 modems, again, all T1's look clean and the suspect modems are spanned across all the cards. Im looking for suggestions on possible causes and information on the firmware version for these code revisions, it seems that in 8.0.5, the firmware version for the Series II cards was upgraded to V5.8177, this level ran up until 9.0.6. I cannot locate any info on 9.0.7 - 9.0.8.....but in 9.0.9, the Firmware was downgraded to V5.817. Does anyone have any info on why it was downgraded? I am wondering if this might not be part of my problem? Thanks in advance for any replies, Vincent
