Check on the status window, for the enabled features. 2) some maxes were hash-coded to disable the use of S56 modems. 3) I'm not sure whether E1-R2 needs it, but if the max can't determine the type of call, it will assume that it is a digital call. If E1-R2 doesn't tell the MAX the type of call, then you need to force it by specifying 'Slot=3' on each and every one of the E1 channels. Beware though that this setup prevents you from taking analog and digital calls. If you are going to take analog and digital calls, you need a true PRI line. Hope some of this helps, -J >I bought an Ascend MAX 4000 with 2 S56 modem cards. I tried various AT answer strings but no good result. When I checked the modem diagnostics, it showed a very poor Line Quality and RX level. But when I put the same E1 line into other RAS servers (working Patton and Total Control), it works just fine, the line quality shows very good. Could this be an incompatibility issue? I have checked with the Telco (the telco uses Siemens switches, though I dont know other details) and they have no such complaints for any other E1 connections. Any help will be highly appreciated. Message-ID: <75634F04BFCFD511BF69009027DC864948455F@mailman.thenap.com> I'm willing to pay someone who considers themselves an oracle of knowledge about Max NAS equipment, I really need some help with the following situation. My company was hired on a consulting basis to see if we could help another ISP in a rural community with a problem they were having, basically their situation is this. They have 2 Max 6000s (one has 4 modem cards, one has 2 [96 + 48]) they have 5 T1s (they aren't ISDN t1s, like 23 channels) they're some kind of funky rural T1, I've never seen before, the kind we use are the 24 channels, 1 used for d channel type. Ok so here is the issue. If all of their lines are enabled at once, their callers get a loud squeeling sound instead of a modem when they dial, and the maxes say -c-cc-cc-c instead of ------- or --*-*-*** et cetera. The phone company says their lines are clear, I even tried taking down one of our old max 4048s from the basement and plugging that in to see whats going on but that max 4048 wont even bring up their lines, I guess the 4048s have different wan interface cards in them than the 6000s do? Whats weird about this scenario is that my max4048 doesn't have the Front end = csu option, but their 6000s do, and ascend's documentation say that this is required. Anyway im having lots of problems with this and I need some help. If so, the sessions are probably not getting completely established. You might check your Net/T1--> Line Config -->Factory-->Line x-->Rob Ctl = Some central switches like this set to "Wink-Start" and others like "Inc-W-200" You asked about the wan interfaces on 6000 versus 4000's. They are the same as far as I know. I have used PRI and CHT1 on both, and as long as they are configured the same, they should be interchangable. There are few options that are different, but I believe there is nothing that would keep you from using the line with either series of maxen. As a previous respondent stated, you need to know the type of T1. Is it PRI or CHT1? If its CHT1, you need to know the Framing Mode and Encoding. If you can find out the above information, I will be glad to compare settings with you over the phone. Email me off list to get my phone number. In-Reply-To: Message-ID: <001101c344e8$85feb6f0$0100a8c0@tws> If those 185's are from a wide variety of users, it may indicate that there's something wrong with the options on the trunks (either Telco or ISP side). Here's a breakdown on most of the other numbers: 11 - DCD Detected but went inactive 45 - Peer request termination 42 - Authentication failure 100 - Idle timeout If you're getting Idle timeouts after just 2 minutes, check Answer/Defaults, as the Max's default idle limit is 120 seconds. You need to adjust this to something more reasonable like 0 or 1800. If you search Google for Ascend-Disconnect-Cause and Ascend-Connect-Progress, you'll find lists of codes. Those 2 codes will tell you exactly what's going on with individual calls and can also help you identify larger problems if you examine all your data. -- Troy Settle Pulaski Networks Follow the instructions to reload the firmware on the box. If that fails to help you, contact Lucent technical support for assistance (don't tell them about the NINDY though). If neither of those work, you probably just need to go buy yourself a new 6000 chassis. I'd imagine that you can find one for less than $2k without a problem. In fact, I see some idiot on Ebay that has a bunch listed for $100 starting and no reserve. Too bad I'm using the TNT now, I'd probably take them all at that price. -- Troy Settle Pulaski Networks http://www.psknet.com 540.994.4254 ~ 866.477.5638 Pulaski Chamber 2002 Small Business Of The Year > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com > [mailto:owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com] On Behalf Of Djema Farid > Sent: Thursday, July 17, 2003 11:47 AM > To: owner-ascend-users@max.bungi.com > Cc: ascend-users@max.bungi.com > Subject: (ASCEND) MAX6000 boot problem > > > Hello, > I have a problem with Lucent Max 6000. If you have the choice, get the swan-2. The other one is no longer supported. BTW, swan cards support FR and PPP links only. Verify that the remote end of the circuit will support either one of those two choices. If the other end is a MAX6000, you will be ok. TAOS does not support interface routing. You need to assign an IP address to each interface and use the _remote_ IP address for routing. It is a little different than Cisco's but it works just the same.
