In fact they're uncommon enough that it could easily be put down to poor lines and/or crappy modems. However, if there are any known incompatibilities with certain modems, (I'm thinking mainly Lucent Winmodem or Connexant HCF softmodems here) that could be improved by upgrading the firmware, I'd certainly be interested to know. If so, what version have people found most reliable and stable ? In all other respects the unit is working just fine. Here in New Zealand we use E1 lines, and the unit currently has six 56K 16-modem cards fitted. On another point, is it possible to increase the maximum modem count above 96 ? As all the slots are full I presume the only way would be if a card was available with more than 16 modems per card. In this case, you will likely have to NINDY the MAX in order to restore good code onto your flash. This enables you to get into DF mode where you can Xmodem a TAOS file into flash. Sometimes, it works and sometimes it doesn't and could render your MAX inoperable. It will also void any warranty (not an issue w/ the 4000, though) or extended contract agreement. You should be able to find the NINDY procedure by searching the Inet. At best, it only supports the 48 and 96-port cards, and only offers parial support, PCM not available at the time. This documentation falls (chronilogically) in between releases 9.0.2 and 9.0.3. They are as far as 9.0.9 (dated 04-03-2002) on the free side, yet still no mention of v.92 in any of those regular build Release Notes. The start of the "paid" TAOS of 9.1.0 (dated 05-23-2001) makes the same announcement for v.92 support as the odd one above, still on a limited basis supporting only Modem on Hold (MoH) and Quick Connect (QC), PCM still unavailable. Also, only the 48 and 96-port models are supported. In release 9.1.8 (dated 06-18-2002) there was a bug fix concerning Quick Connect not operating efficiently. Release 10.0.1 (which pre-dates the above at 05-10-2002, go figure) added v.92 support for the 240 and 288-port modem cards. Release 10.0.2 (dated 07-25-2002) included no new information, and to this point I have still not found anything stating that PCM Upstream is supported yet. ## MODEM HARDWARE: Only these modem cards are able to support v.92 functionality at this time. (1) TNTV-SL-ADI-C (48 ports of v.92 max) aka, "madd-card" (2) APX8-SL-96DSP (96 ports of v.92 max) aka, "madd2-card" (3) APX-SL-DSP-3-L (240 ports of v.92 max) aka, "madd3-240-card" (4) APX-SL-DSP-3 (288 ports of v.92 max) aka, "madd3-card" Note: Item four can also be configured to support 480 ports of G.711 VoIP using H.323, and then is known as "madd3-voip-480" I hope this information helps. -Nick -----Original Message----- From: Gordon Mackenzie [mailto:gordo@lucent.com] Sent: Monday, October 07, 2002 11:13 AM To: ascend-users@max.bungi.com Cc: Mark Gehres Subject: [Ascend] Re: (ASCEND) APX8-SL-96DSP cards I think it's only in 10.0.0 and higher revs of code. On dial-in, a terminal client (such as hyperterminal) would get the banner "welcome to eircom!". This was used as part of an automated test script to verify a successful connection as far as the TS stage. However since upgrading to TAOS 11.0 the TNT simply responds with "Successful Profile" - ignoring the configured banner. Has anyone come across this and is there a new TS configuration command I'm missing?
