I have just successfully accomplished what you describe (this very
day) using a SuperPipe 155 and the latest 8.x code.

It requires a feature Lucent/Ascend calls "No NAT Net" which will keep a
single subnet from being translated.  If you can find a software revision
that supports this feature, then you should be ok.  I dont know if it is
available for anything but the SuperPipe, though.
