I'm curious if it is possible to obtain updated software for them? I also have no idea what features are supported by what versions of the OS. In particular I'm working with a MAX-6000 right now, getting it ready for deployment, that has System +9.0.4 on it. Can anyone tell me what this supports, or where a feature matrix might be found? On the topic of software updates, I'm going to presume that these are not free. Who do I need to contact to purchase updates? I've not been able to find much about it in my googling. Sad thing is, I paid $12,000 for it originally. There is 0 official support for the max's. Nor will you find code that you will be able to legally run. Nor will you find very many people that will help you out even for money. Did you buy them because they were cheap, or did you already have some running? Not to be a commercial but... We sell The Portmaster 3 which is equivalent to the max 40xx series. We still support it and distribute the comos as legally contracted by Lucent. If you DO find some max support, IOS, links, etc... We have an existing base of equipment, and redeploy them as necessary. In my experiance the MAX is a great unit. Bullet proof, highly reliable. I described it to someone earlier today as "fire and forget" :) Since there's no OS upgrades legally available, I guess I'll just run on what I've got - it works fine, I'd just like to be able to puff up my chest and crow "V.92 support!" :) It's been a while since we bought any MAX units, but when we were, it was something like $250 for a 40xx - not a bad price for a highly reliable 48 port unit. I might actually be interested in your chassis (as long as it works). I've got a chassis that has two fried T1 ports on it - could pull the modems, stuff 'em in that chassis and have a 4 port unit back :) If anyone on this list has any information regarding OS code for these, I'd appreciate whatever information you could give me. Feel free to privately mail if you feel it is more appropriate. - Nick On 1/26/06, Jake Messinger wrote: > Wow, you actually BOUGHT some? > I couldnt sell a max 6000 on eBay even for $10 a year ago. > I think I still have it (no modem cards), if you want to pay me for the > shipping + $10. > Or maybe I threw it away, I will have to go check. I believe Lucent started their practice of gouging, err charging, for bug fixes and upgrades with TAOS 9.1.x. Also, for your Max4K's, TAOS 7.X was the last release. I used 7.0.22 or 7.0.4 with good results on a lot of those. And there are no legal issues with these TAOS versions. I 'm not sure what the previous poster was implying, but those software releases are the ones that were freely available for anyone that had a Max chassis. And they are freely and officially available still... but definitely totally unsupported. Good luck. --- Dave (Yes, I miss my Max 6096's... ah the good ol' days!) But hey, thats GREAT that people are still using them AND as I mentioned earlier, if its still on their ftp site, it must still be legal to get and use. So I apologize if I gave some bad info, but I was relaying what I was "officially" told by Lucent not more than 1 year ago. We dont get along that well anymore especially since they spun off Avaya and Avaya owes me some source code per a binding contract with Lucent that they refuse to give me. (another story) I agree, once you get one working, leave it alone and it should keep working. They are not for the faint hearted tho... there's a lot more support for other boxen like the pm3's. And they are much easier to configure IMHO, and lots more support. Too bad there isnt a maxboxes.com out there like portmasters.com ;-) I seriously considered doing it too but i like the pms a lot better. A couple folks posted directly to me (from this list) that they support the max 4xxx and 6xxx so there ARE some on the list, so try to find them and see what you can do to get some help getting them up and running. BTW, I personally have some pdf's for the Max 2000 and Max 1800, which I understand are RARE? ~*-,._.,-*~'`^`'~*-,._.,-*~'`^`'~*-,._.,-*~'`^`'~*-,._.,-*~'`^`'~*-,._.,-*~ Jake Messinger, VP. ph:713-772-6690 Visit: portmasters.com AMS, Inc. fx:713-774-3498 advmed.com 8300 Bissonnet #400 jake at jakes.org profjake.com Houston, Texas 77074 http://jakes.org homestarrunner.com ICQ# 4403734 YAHOO: prof_jake AIM: profjake MSN: jake at jakes.org Adjunct Professor University of Houston, CBA jake at uh.edu ~*-,._.,-*~'`^`'~*-,._.,-*~'`^`'~*-,._.,-*~'`^`'~*-,._.,-*~'`^`'~*-,._.,-*~ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Montgomery" To: "Jake Messinger" Cc: "Brandon Shiers" ; "brian haynes" ; Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2006 2:36 PM Subject: Re: [Ascend] Where can I find software features / upgradesfor MAX-6000/ MAX-4000 > Yeah, 9.0.9 was the last free release. I believe you require a maintenance contract for the newer releases. The last release I have used for the 6000 was "SW +8.0-133.0+". This has been very stable for us for years. If you look in Screen 00-100 on the main display, you will see the options enabled on your units. Hope this helps...Ed Nick Bright wrote: >I've got quite a few MAX-4000 and several MAX-6000 units, bought off >of eBay. I'm curious if it is possible to obtain updated software for >them?
