If you can, try booting with: linux init=/bin/sh No services or anything will start (since init is replaced with /bin/sh) but you should be able to remount / as rw (mount -o remount,rw /) and then change the password. Make sure you remount as ro and run sync a few times before rebooting, just to be safe.
