In fact, the only question you actually implied in your original post was to see if there were any other newbies that wanted to get together to try to learn linux with the help of a "mother hen". All in all, you talked a lot, but didn't say much. ;-) I'm going to assume that you're just in "frustrated mode" and are lashing out at ghosts and shadows. As other people suggested, you should probably attend the InstallFest and get some hands-on advice and help from experienced Linux users.
