Well I can't say for CERTAIN with Debian, but I've had extremely good 
luck with the Compaq Smart* units using RedHat, Slackware and FreeBSD. 
It uses the cpqarray module so I'd have to think at the most you're 
looking at a custom kernel build if it's not supported by default.
