Thanks for all the suggestions. I know that it is possible to buy all my own parts and build one myself; I just don't know enough to do that. I can install a hard drive or CDRW, but I don't know how to choose a motherboard, or why you would want a separate controller for each device. That's why ibuypower.com looks good to me - I can just pick and choose from options and have a reasonable expectation that they won't send me a machine that has conflicting components. So General Nanosystems seems pretty ideal - I can see the stuff that they offer on their website, and I can go down the street and visit them in person. Plus supporting a local business.
