One more thing that I forgot to mention (sorry, I havn't been keeping up with this thread very well) Does the motherboard support ACPI? If so, try loading with out acpi (acpi=off) or disabling it in the bios. My compaq laptop dies after kernal load sometimes and all I do is turn off acpi and it works fine then. That is the exact steps I was going to take this weekend to try and troubleshoot why it's not loading. I have components that I know work with Linux in the system already (sound and NIC), however the Mobo, ram and AGP video card are untested on Linux in my perspective. Meaning, I've gotten them to work. I have a pci video card that I know works with Linux that I'm going to use as a test card.
