Just like you do at the bash prompt, TAB completion.  At the boot
prompt, hitting the TAB key will give a list of commands you can use.
If you put in "root" and then "(hd"<TAB>, it will give a list of
possible partitions, choose one, <TAB> again and it will give you a
list of files on that partition.  Doing this, it's quite easy to boot
a system without even having a conf file.
