Mandrake uses supermount to handle mounting removeable media.  It 
usually isn't necessary to manually mount it from the command line. 
This feature can be disabled though I can't remeber how off the top of 
my head.  man supermount should give you a good start.

In the network section of Mandrake Control Center there should be a 
little check box that enables or disables bringing up interfaces at boot 
time.
