Well, I reinstalled with _ALL_ base packages and network packages, and it still gives me the same error. (Also, I'm using the bare.i kernel). This is really odd.. I think you misread what I said, I am using slackware :P. This time I put in a PCI NIC and it didn't give me any trouble during set up, so I just figured it was supported. Also, I tried a loopback network set up and it still gives me the trouble. I'll recompile, but isn't this mode enabled by default in the bare.i kernel? I haven't had any problems with this machine (the one I use) with any of this, and I'm running the exact OS.. hmm.. Also, another thing (not trying to be rude), but I was pretty much forced to install linux, its the only OS that'll run on that machine, and I couldn't reinstall win95 mainly because I do not have the serial.
