First add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://www.backports.org/debian stable kernel-2.6 pcmcia-cs hotplug Then run apt-get update && apt-get upgrade That should fetch you new versions of the kernel, pcmcia-cs, hotplug, and hopefully everything else needed to run 2.6 under woody.... Otherwise, to upgrade to Sarge: Edit /etc/apt/soruces.list, chance woody or stable to sarge (or testing if you perfer...) Then: apt-get update && apt-get -dy dist-upgrade Apt will start downloading. The -dy flags tell it to download only, and answer yes to all questions. Putting it in a screen means that you can detach it and reattach it. Just hit Ctrl + A then D to detach. screen -r to reattach. Useful if you want to monitor this where ever your are, in an xterm, at the system console, via ssh. It will take awhile to download all the new packages. Once they are downloaded, apt-get dist-upgrade to install. Keep in mind that Sarge is still in the testing phase. I've been running it on my workstation for some time now without issue. I suggest trying the backports.org method first...that might be enough to do it. -- Andrew S.
