I like the Dell Truemobile 1150 as an 802.11b card that's got good RF sensitivity and an external antenna connector, etc.  Made by
Lucent so can't do better in hardware and software compatibility.  These are reasonable on ebay.  Haven't considered USB as an
option, so I have no info on that.
