I've been very happy with Shorewall. It is very much like building your own,
in that you have a lot of control, and get a good understanding of Iptables.

I've been using Firewall Builder, http://www.fwbuilder.org/ which does a
real nice job of point-click/drag-drop configuration of iptables.
