I have had no problems with Hauppauge cards. My only recommendation is to get a card that has an MPEG-2 encoder chip, that way you don't need such a big CPU or as much RAM. Do you have HDTV only? I have a Hauppauge HVR-1600 which has both an NTSC and an ATSC tuner. It works very well in Linux/MythTV and will allow you to record from both tuners at the same time. http://www.linuxtv.org is your friend. Check out the DVB wiki for supported ATSC/QAM cards.
