Both the description on the msse.umn.edu webiste and the response below are misleading. Not only did the GNU developers write many of the development tools used to create GNU/Linux as is correctly implied below but they did in fact contribute much code to the operating system. Additionally the GNU project has written an OS but it needs further development and its use is very limited.
