While the criticisms lobbied at LinkedIn have some merit, I don't think they qualify as condemnations leading to a conclusion of zero-value-proposition. I use it, first and foremost, to stay linked to past colleagues and coworkers, and to that end it has been very effective. Other people have different agendas for using (abusing?) the system, that's certainly true.
