I used to be an avid Open Office supporter, but mostly because that is what was installed with Ubuntu. When Ubuntu switched to Libre Office, I gave it a try. So far I have had no problems with it that were not also problems within Open Office. There are still a few things missing in Libre Office Calc that you can do in newer versions of MS Office (or so I am told), but so far it has done everything I need it to. For the record, I do quite a bit of complicated math in my Calc spreadsheets. I also do a lot of linking between sheets to build summary reports and such. So far, Calc has been able to handle everything I need it to do. Having said that, Open Office was able to do this as well. So, for me, I use Libre Office, but only because 1) it does everything I need it to, and 2) it's preinstalled in the OS I prefer. Now, it should be noted that I have had issues opening some spreadsheets created in M$ Office 2003 and 2007, but these have been quite limited and fairly easy to fix. So, I would suggest opening a few of the documents you already have in Calc (either flavor) and see what issues you come across.
