"secure method"  How is it that any of the IM protocols are secure?
Sorry, the thought made me chuckle.

IRC is a perfectly usable multi-user system.. picking a decent network
like freenode.net or oftc.net is probably a good idea.  they provide a
low-noise enviornment for technical work.
