Yes, OK, I have vgetty/mgetty on the Linux box so can go from there.

It's not a thing that I have to have, just something that would be
nice to have.  Keeping the connection up 24/7 is not possible as,
although my connection is un-metered there's an automatic cut off
after two hours and I might well get kicked up altogether if tried to
keep it up all the time.
