Hi Marco,

I feel your pain when it comes down to Lucent however, you can the
software is free up to the 9.x code so unless you have the 9.x manual I dont
think they are stating that ALL software releases are free. I think they
are implying the software for that version. Also, all software downloads
will be available through www.esight.com starting soon and not through the
ftp.ascend.com site. We are a huge reseller of Lucent and 44 other vendors
and if you are having problems with a particular issue, you can give us a
call and we will more than gladly assist you.

If you're just looking for a few ports, you can't beat some old Livingston
or after assimilation Lucent Port Master 3s. While they are discontinued,
you can pick them up cheap, and they run forever. Don't plan on any
software upgrades for them as Lucent discontinued a great product then
abandoned the people who used them...... Waiting to see what happens to my
Max6096s now.

As for me. I'm going to send a box full of horse manure to the president of
Lucent and let him know this is how I feel about his support (maybe some of
you would like to join in?). We should get a group of us together and sue
Lucent in a class action lawsuit for breach of contract. On the front of
all my manuals, support is stated as free.
